Sand wedge advice needed!

Hello forum pals.I am in need of a 54 to 56 degree sand wedge that has enough bounce for bunker shots AND can be used for chipping and pitching from tight lies.Perhaps something with a non standard grind? Does such a thing exist? As you can tell from my clubs i am a total Nike slag,do they make such a wedge? All recommendations appreciated,and yes,i am willing to try any brand in search of this holy grail of wedges! Cheers

a high bounce wedge for the bunker and a low bounce wedge for tight fairway lies all in one club? The two uses are contradictory in terms of club design so not compatible, ideally you need the 54/56 to have decent bounce for sand and have one of your other wedges with lower bounce for tight lies

Bridgestone west coast wedges have a variable bounce, i can use mine from all lies, worth a look, but I think they are an older modle, so maybe tough to get.

I particularly like the sole grind and now find I can use my sand wedge off very tight lies despite the bounce",so this appears possible,no? Its from Oddsocks review of the Mizuno mpt10 wedges in the review forum.Jamestaylor77 thanks for the tip,will scour ebay to check it out,cheers mate! Anybody else?

i`ve got a clev 588 low bounce 52 - great of the tight lies - not sure about the bunker shots i think u need around 12 -14 of bounce for a good sand iron - think u should be lookin for 2 wedges mate

The wedge in question is a Mizuno MP10 56/11 black finnish.
The club it replaced is a mizuno mpt black ox same loft/bounce. I have had this club 5 years and due to the bounce could only use it for fluffy lies or from sand, so had a low bounce 51 deg for tight lies. Since changing i've hardly used the 51. Only prob i cant hit it more than 75 yards. Both clubs i'm a member of are links, so deff works fron bare lies.

Thanks golfcitydweller,i am using 3 Nike SV Tour wedges at the moment.My lob and gap wedges have 10 deg of bounce and my sand wedge has 12.I am thinking about adding a 5 wood to my bag,so i need to drop a wedge.I am thinking of using a 50 or 52 deg gap wedge with a 56 or 58 deg sand/lob.I really need the most lofted club to be as versatile as possible to play a greater range of shots.The Bridgestone suggested previously is in the right ballpark,any other clubmakers use reduced bounce in the heel/toe?.

In my bag is a:

52 deg MP-T10 with 7 deg bounce- all round chipping and pitching club
56 deg MP-T10 with 13 deg bounce- to use in bunkers but also does a great full shots and chipping when I do not need to open the face.
60 deg MP-T10 with 5!!! deg bounce- fantastic and dead stop chip shots and fantastic at flop shots, I can whip the face wide open and get a great result!

I prefer to be wedge heavy as I tend to lay up on long par fours and wedge in rather than go at them with a long iron or wood.

Having so much bounce makes bunker shots look easy, when I get my swing right (unlike last sunday) people are always saying my bunker play is beyond expected from someone with my handicap (as is said about most of my chipping and around the green work).

Thanks for your input ScienceBoy,i had a similar range of shots using my 3 wedges,but i want the same range with 2! Is this possible? I sure hope so! I must admit,the MP T-10s look sooooo nice!

Oops,just realised in my original post i said it was a 54/56 i was after.It is in fact a 56/58! Sorry!

Appreciate your post TriggerTech,i hit my 4 iron about 185 and my hybrid about 200(according to trackman),and am not sure i can afford to drop one.Depending on how i get on with a 5 wood,i may drop the hybrid as i am not very consistent with it.Some hardcore practice is in order,but the appeal of shiny new wedges is great!

I have 52 and 58 wedges both with 8 degree bounce. Perfect for out of bunkers and for chipping off the tightest fairways, which ours are.

I would say you can do most things with the 52 deg with the face open (I practice it for the time in the future when I may need to be long club heavy and leave the 60 at home). The only real way to find out is to own one and see how well it goes.

If you don't carry something that can do flop shots like a 60, how many shots do you think it will cost you per round? At my course I think my 60 deg saves between 0.5 and 2 shots a round depending on how many bunkers I lay up behind on par 4s and how close the pin is cut.

Depending on your course, with some good course management you may not need one at all.

I would say leave out the 60.

I don't use one as i can play the same sort of shot by opening my 56 or 51

Get your self something around 10-14 deg bounce and 56-58 loft and a gap wedge with 50/51/52 with no bounce.

Thanks for the insight guys.I am going to try hitting shots with an open faced sand wedge and see how I get on.I like my 60 a lot and usually use it for chips and pitching with much success.My PW is 45 deg so do you think using my 50 deg gap wedge and a new 56 deg sand wedge is a good choice or is a 52 and 58 deg choice the one to go for? The 58 is closer to my 60 deg,I think this might be best choice for a wider range of shots?

deke, if it helps my pw is 46* and my old set up was a 52* and a 60*. personally i think the 60* is one of the hardest clubs in the bag to hit, even off bare lies with a low bounce my 60* was hard work, ive dropped to a 58 & 52 and things are looking bright.

As i said in my review thread which im guessing you read through quoting patrick, i do think matched wedges are a very important thing. after a brush up lesson on chipping last night i was able to swap between 52/58 playing a variety of shots to different targets with little notice of club swap, id say now their matched i could almost grab the wrong wedge by mistake and adapt it to suit a shot needed. something i couldnt do with unmatched wedges.
