Just wondering for those that have had one, are SAM Putting lab lessons worth it? Does it provide realistic info that you can act on? Worried it just drowns you in stats that you have little control over improving

Anyone done it and seen a gain in their putting stats, or walked away disappointed?

Interested in getting some views.

Best most tangible lesson I ever had and it helped my putting.

That said, there are technically poor putters who make great compensations and putt well.... if your one the pro should notice and leave you well alone.

Absolutely it will give you very clear info on what your putting stroke is doing.

On a much lower budget, a close up camera with a slo mo can also do a similar job.

So say it tells me I tend to have my putter between 1 and 4 degrees closed at impact, rather than square, which causes me to miss left most of the time on long putts (I'm totally guessing a problem and outcome btw so apologies if it's completely wrong). How can I correct such a small discrepancy without constant need to check, or use such a tool during practice, which obviously isn't possible?

Had a SAM session a few weeks back - what I learned.

If you are concerned you are missing left then chances are you are either closed at impact or maybe without you knowing you are closed at address. This was like my issue. I was a couple of degrees open at address, and about 1 degree open at impact. That wasn't the problem so much, my putter on the way back goes outside the line and then cuts inside going through. Consistency wise I was very consistent (98%!). Just that I was cutting across the ball.

Whats the fix? I have since bought a putter that sits square (to my eye) at address, I'm working on my grip, I'm working on taking the putter head back straighter (by putting something parallel to it on the ground. The answer is working on becoming a better putter. Yes I did need a new stick but that isn't the answer, the answer is delivering the putter face square to the ball.

Definitely no concern about being over-fed stats, just trust the fitter/coach knows what he's doing and realise you won't walk out a better putter, just a more informed one. With work on what they tell you, you might become a better putter.

I definitely feel it has helped my putting. They are likely to pick one or 2 of the main issues on your putting and get you to work on them. I think it's the type of thing that would be worthwhile doing annually/6 monthly to see where your tendencies are and if they have changed (for better/worse), or if you had reverted to an old ingrained way.

The main issue in terms of my swing I was open at address by 1 degree and closed by 1-1.5 at impact which was a big variation so was very inconsistent. After 10 minutes of working on it we got this back to a more respectable level of practically square at impact (which also resulted in more centred strikes). The 2nd main issue was my tempo which I found harder to change but has been something I have been working on ever since.

My path was ok not great but they did explain path only probably accounts for 10% in terms of importance compared to squareness and impact point.

If nothing else it will give you a far better understanding.

The pro will teach you. 4* would be HUGE though, you would probably even see it.

If the pro is any good he will be able to see why your putter face is open, show you why and give you a way to stop it happening.

For me it was an uncomfortable work around but I just practiced until it was less awkward.

A bit of SAM data from my lesson. Note the really good face and path and the really poor "rise" that is angle of attack(last pic).

Always worth getting data whether it's driver Irons or putter. You have to have a starting point somewhere to then eradicate the issue. Also consider the Quintic system that gives you ball data as well, that the SAM doesn't.
