Sadiq Khan

Of course he's "vote chasing"... It's election year (y)...
Puzzled why folk outside London are have interest about 'our' election ...

As for "clean air" folk say that is what they want... BUT, they don't want to be the ones giving up 'stuff'' to achieve it...
Think that was borne out on another thread quite recently...

This comment is why folk outside of London are so bogged off with “ Some “ Londoners. It is a them/ the rest of the UK verse US/ London.
We (the outsiders) keep being told that London gets a bigger share or the pot because it contributes so much to the economy. If that is the case, why should we not have an interest in our capital City.

Yeah, you are right, loads of people should be queueing up to lose their jobs. They could leap frog each other all the way to the job centre.

And, carrying on exactly as we are will continue to see pollution [air quality] become an issue more impossible to resolve... ULEZ etc has been coming for some while it's not as though it was dumped on us last week... And, I strongly suspect there will be more unpalatable measures required, in times ahead, for whoever is in city hall...

Going to suggest any "bigger share of the pot" ain't finding its way into 'ordinary' Londoners pockets... I've searched high and low for those mythical streets paved with gold... And, they've remained just that... Mythical...

Sadiq will be having to fight for every penny, from Westminster, just the same as your Mayor...

Khan's remit is mayor of London. There were 149 murders in London last year. 1 murder almost every other day. Air quality in London, in the autumn, was the poorest it had been for many years. Affordable housing... there's a list Khan needs to be concentrating on.

I'm all for an EU citizenship for those that want it - some of us need it, or at least some certainty about our future... believe me, even with the (good) noises coming from the Spanish govt it needs the UK govt to reciprocate, which they are being incredibly silent about.

Khan can make as much noise as he wants, even though he should be concentrating on the day job, but he carries zero weight on this issue. He's vote chasing, that's all.
Crime stats are used against him a lot but policing is outwith his control.

He could take advice from Nicola Sturgeon on independence for CoL !

I rather suspect the vast majority of Londoners would far sooner he stayed away from the SNP/her...
Not exactly shown much in the way of friendliness towards Londoners in recent times...

And, I don't believe Sadiq went down too well when he last travelled north of the wall...

But changing to a new, equally polluting Euro 6 car is carrying on exectly the way we are, but with the addition of spending money people don't have.
They could do what I have done, and buy a cheap 2007 perrol run about, but that then comes at the expense of increased fuel, and maintenance. Still money shredded.
I am also far from convinced that a 2007 3ltr petrol is less polluting than a 2016 1 ltr diesel.

But as previously stated, most of the cars used for commuting are not polluting at all for the majority of the day. An empty bus being driven around at 14.30 is.

Reducing congestion would have much more impact. I am 0.75 miles inside the NC, and off the M1. To get to the M1, I have 3 routes, and on any given day, 2 of them will take upwards of 1/2 hour. Trouble is, the fast route could be any of the 3.
Public transport would take me 2 1/2 hours each way. With no traffic, I can be home in 1/2 hour. It is only 14m.
Stationary traffic for 30m is polluting. Not every car has start stop, and that is still not a requirement.

Reducing congestion would be a great step... But will require a good deal of co-operation that business seems unwilling to commit to... Never been sure why more thought/application of staggered starts/finishes hasn't been implemented... And, with all of the IT tools available not sure why more use is not made of flexi hours...

And, buses are rarely empty at 14.30 as folk, like me, are trying to get back to the safety of home before school kicking out time ;)...

Reducing congestion is nigh on impossible

London is busy

Every train during the peak is crush loaded

Every bus is full to the brim

If you get people off the roads you would need triple the buses and double the trains to just fit some of them in.

2 min service becoming a 1 min service would be impossible to manage effectively .. just join all trains together and make under ground walk ways ?

Overpopulation has its effects.
