Ryder in Rome

I now have a mental image of the fast food vendors selling spag bol in a roll :o

The course held an Italian Open in the 90s and will be radically overhauled. Rome should be a good venue, though, better weather and fewer delays in early October and lots of cultural things to do around it.

Expect lots of references to the teams as gladiators.

I'm not so sure about this hawking the European hosting rights around the continent.

Is there a danger that there will be too much pressure to include a player of whichever country is hosting the comp?

One could argue that Stephen Gallacher at Gleneagles didn't work any maybe the pressure to have a Scot on the team influenced the wild card selections. (Admittedly he was playing well but that often is not enough - see Casey in 2010)

So what happens in France in 2018 if VDUB's not playing well? And likewise Italy.

Just a thought.

I think moving the event around Europe is the correct and only thing to do, after all it is Europe v USA.

As for the team, when it comes to the wildcards it is generally between 2 or 3 players anyway with very little to choose between them. Just because 1 pick doesn't perform who's to say the alternative would have done?

It's needs to be moved around Europe - it is Europe vs the US

Well, Eduardo Molinari and Matteo Manassero have slipped off the face of the earth, Francesco will be 40 in 2022, so maybe Renato Panatore will come through by then.

You put the usa ahead of Italy for places to visit???? You need to travel a bit more

Depends on which parts of the US. Some are pretty great, others more terrible than Bracknell on a Sunday.

I travel to Boston quite often and it is great at any time (outside December to March when it is baltic), San Diego and San Fran are great anytime, New York and Chicago (see Boston exception), Florida is good in small doses, Seattle pretty good. Lots of nice outdoor stuff in Yosemite, Yellowstone, and loads of other places.

OK, quite a lot of places are terrible, but nobody goes to those much.

Rome is great though, and unlike much of the US, you can see everything on foot.

I am all over this - Ryder Cup and a trip to Italy are two items on my Bucket List!

A long wait until 2022, but will be going to this one for sure.

Rome and Italy are one of my favourite cities/country. Expect to come back fatter if you go.
Love it and the one thing the Italians will do is put on a good show.
Yup glad it's goin there

I would have liked to seen it held in Sweden given the amount swedes that have played in the Ryder Cup .They always seem to get great crowds for the european tour events there and they have some great courses. I dont know whetther they tabled a bid and i guess the late September date may have have been a problem for light.
