Morning all
has anyone flown recently with those delightful Ryan Air types?
I am off on annual boys golf trip this Thursday to Spain and we are all v confused about baggage allowances as they make it deliberately cryptic on the website re charges and no one in Delhi is answering the phone

we have all paid the rip off fee for for
1 hold bag each way £10 x 2
1 set of golf clubs each way £30 x 2

The blurb says 15kg weight (plus 10KG carry on)

Does this mean the hold bag can be up to 15kg and then you get another 15kg for your golf clubs or is 15kg between the two?

How strictly is the above enforced?

Any advice v much appreciated

Mike,

I think, as you have paid the extra for the golf clubs these are catered for under a seperate allowance. So, your hold luggage can be 15kg, and then your clubs should be seperate.

I haven't flown with Ryan Air before and taken clubs, but other airlines I have done similar with have worked this way. Maybe someone can verify Rayn Air policy who has flown recently.

Hi
flew from Dublin to faro at easter with ryan air. and the golf bag can be up to 15 kg in its own right seperate to your other luggage. In terms of how vigilant they are...Its Ryan Air so keep it under the 15kgs or they will charge

Mike,

Found this on their websiite, which seems to verify my above point.

"Sporting equipment including but not limited to large fishing rods, golf clubs, bicycles, scooters, fencing equipment, surfboards, bodyboards, snowboards and skis and large musical instruments including but not limited to harps, double bass and drums are inherently unsuitable for carriage by airlines operating fast turnarounds such as Ryanair.

However, these items can be carried in the hold of the aircraft, in addition to your personal checked baggage allowance on payment of a discounted fee per item/per one way flight if booked online or at the full rate at the airport or a Ryanair call centre."

Ryan Air seems to be all about the extras, and by that I mean thats how they make their cash, so don't expect to get away with anything. It wouldn't suprise me if they keep the blurb confusing to catch you out.

Ryan Air seems to be all about the extras

Dead right, they are still probably the cheapest option available for a lot of destinations but you have to ask yourself why? lol

I've flown with them once to Majorca and never ever ever will set foot in one of their stinking hovels of a plane again.

I know there are jokes that their aircraft stink of piss but its true, they do!

I'd rather chew broken lightbulbs and wash them down with 2L of domestos than fly with them again!

I just travelled with them to Ireland.......never again if I can avoid it. The allowance is as stated already, but take care with your check-in bag weight. They will rip you off for being only a little over the limit. Allow plenty of time for the check-in queues, at Gatwick last week it was a complete shambles, also be prepared for constant hard sell once in the air. Not a happy experience!

Rumour has it that before they closed a loophole in their terms, golfers used to buy an extra seat for their clubs as it was cheaper than putting them in the hold.
