I have just come back from hols and i have been going over some old posts and a subject that keeps cropping up is - Rules :D
Could someone recommend a simple but up to date pocket book, something that i could read and then keep in my bag? I have been on the R & A site numerous times but without printing off pages and pages that is not the answer. I only play with friends and colleagues at the moment, not yet considering myself ready for anything else, so it has not got too serious yet!!
I do want to become an anorak, but i would like a sound knowledge of this wonderful but frustrating game!

If you read and thoroughly understood a Quick Guide to The Rules of Golf (7 small pages) you would not go far wrong.

This is a R and A publication

Even if you're not a club member, you will usually find a pile of rules booklets lying around somewhere in the clubhouse. Help yourself - they're free.
:)

If you have an iphone the rules app is a must. Very quick and has search functions and is free.

There is another app called Golf Rules. It isn't free but is cheap and has an easy to use relief finder tools.

Before anyone piles in with the point that an Iphone can't be used in comps, it can't be used to measure distance as a GPS but can be used to phone, text or consult the rules.

If you don't have an iphone (or ipod touch) then the above will be pretty irrelevant to you but worth thinking about if you are thinking of a phone upgrade ;)

The quick guide provides every thing you'd need for the majority of decisions you are likely to come across and the full book itself is easy to reference.
