So teh radio is saying that if Scotland beat England by 7 points next week, then we are out

Hold on,

this is England with 121 points for , 22 against. (+99)
Scotland 61f, 43 a (+18)
Argentina 65f 33a (+22)

So assuming Argentina win (otherwise we are through) then they are guranteed +22 or better

So Scotland need to beat us by 0.5x(99-18) = 35 points (whcih even i cant see happening)

so where does teh "beat us by 7 points and we are out" come from ??????

Makes no sense at all.

Scotland can beat us by 1 million points and if Argentina lose, we are still through, so it doesn't take the whole situation into account.

Likely that Argentina will beat Georgia though, so as far as I understand it, Scotland have to get a winning bonus point, and avoid us getting a losing bonus point, so I assume they meant Scotland to beat England by more than 7 points and score at least 4 tries, but they omitted the score 4 tries bit.

If they don't do it that way, then the other way is to better our points difference, which means a huge win.

After today's match v Argentina we (Scotland) don't deserve to progress. 8+ turnovers in the first 20 minutes. No real creativity in the backs despite having Lamont and Evans in the side. Poor kicking when it mattered.

Obviously I'd like to see us turn over the Auld Enemy next Saturday but I think previous comments are correct: Scotland need a bonus point win v England at that is a bit unlikely to happen.

Are there too many "small teams" in the RWC this year?
The only way Georgia, Romainia and Namibia are going to get any points is by beating each other, Japan have no points, Russia have one courtesy of a bonus point....
What are these team there?
It happens in Football too. The San Marino,s, Luxembourg's and Faroe Islands - why?
They have as much chance of winning as George Osbourne has of shouting Spend, Spend, Spend...

Same as ireland in the cricket tho mate , couple of good results raises the profile of the game in the country , same with ireland in the footy with jack charlton , soccer kicked on big time over here then , i guess thats the idea of it ,

If the points are level i am pretty sure it goes on the head to head so as Scotland will have beaten England by more than 7 points both would be on 14 and Scotland progress as they have won the head to head.

It is more complex than that, if they both end up on 14 points, depending on the score in the Argentina game, Argentina could also end up on 14 points - win, but no bonus point.

If that happens Scotland would be above England, but below Argentina, however Argentina would be below England. So no clear order could be determined, so they would then go to points difference.

The idea of the world cup was to try and spread the game over a wider audience with most of the money generated from it going back to grass roots and tier 3 & 4 teams. Due to NZ only having a small population and small stadiums the overall spectator figures are only going to be about half of the previous tournaments meaning less money being generated.

As for the smaller teams taking part I think it's a great thing as it gives the minnows a real chance of giving one of the big boys a fright as Romania & Georgia did to Scotland, Japan did to France and USA to Ireland (final scores didn't reflect the games). Who knows if Georgia would have played their top players against England then that game could also have been tight if not a shock (12 first choice players not playing :o
