don't know what it's like now, wildrover is your best bet, but when I started you only really needed to be 'school fit' during training, the odd cross-country, assault course etc. anything more was up to you and how many sports you played (I did lots but drinking and smoking were high on the 'sportsman's' list of essentials too).
they didn't introduce an annual fitness test until the mid '70's, then killed a few off with heart attacks! (I think they dropped that idea.)

Yes nothing special regarding fitness, hope your not a closet clostraphobic.
I hated the underwater escape and the smoke chambers.
A few cross country runs and a lot of drill.
Weapons training is fun as well.
Dingy sailing and that sort of stuff.
dont know if they still let you go with the marines, rock climbing and absailing down mountains( well 35 feet down a rock face)
all you can do is ask.
Just think of all those sleepless night steaming under the starry skies.
And I do hope you dont get seasick, I did for about a week at the start of every run.

Thanks guys :). A couple more questions... is the training hard? :)

Speak to the guys in the Navy careers office i'm sure they'd advise you mate.
You only live once Owen would be well worth it.

^^ wot 'e said. When I was 17 I was already to join the air force, the sargent in the careers office said to me to finish my time as a sparky, it was THE worst mistake I made. Go for it you have nothing to lose.

Chris nowt wrong with being a sparky mate i've worked in some nice places just being a sparky.

Oh I know that I have managed to work all over the world doing different stuff but I still really wish I had joined the air farce but the job, in civvy street, equated to a flight attendant and I think that was why he steered me away until I had served my time.

first time onboard, sea training on the Wakeful - Greenoch up to Ullapool and across the North Channel in a full gale to Derry; hammocks too. Got a nose bleed every time we untied or picked up the anchor - the only thing that would fix it was a tot - magic when you're 15.

don't think I was ever actually sea sick, closest I used to come when was there was just a 'lollop'. when it was really rough you didn't have time for it, fun going up and down ladders and through kidney hatches though.

You wouldn't be seasick as a Wafu would you, airfields don't move. ;)
There's a bit of difference between an Engineering Technician (Used to be Artificer) and a Seaman Specialist, I don't think you can join as a Seaman Spec it's a branch you can only move sideways into anyway.
My advice for basic training would be get fit and learn to iron before you go.
