Royal British legion summer ball. Ideas.

In essence, Tashyboy is on the committee and this Friday is the first meeting to get things organised. Anyway the theme this year is the 75 th anniversary of the D DAY landings. Friday is going to be a brainstorming night re ideas for table names. Be it beaches. Countries, individuals, etc etc. So has anyone any ideas I can go with re tables or any advise.

Incidentally, at a meeting last Friday it was mentioned that the RBL is looking for 300 D Day veterans to send on a paid cruise. If you know of any D Day vets, chase it up.

We definitely should commemorate this occasion, very different to celebrating.

We cannot whitewash history just because it doesn’t fit in with modern values

Why?

This event should be allowed to be remembered just because there are some people in the modern world that don't agree with wars of the past or current doesn't mean others shouldn't feel pride in helping remember these things.

It is all about remeberance and the sacrifice of individuals. It does not glorify in any way. The 75 th anniversary is in a similar theme to 100 yrs ending if WW1 last year. 👍

Lots of red, white and blue bunting. Plenty of Vera Lynn and Glenn Miller. Maybe some posters; “keep calm and carry on,” and “keep mum” sort of thing.

If it includes a meal, one of the courses to be 40’s food, e.g. spam type stuff.

And as an aside, you need to get your finger out if you’re looking to book a themed band.

I’ve been trying to sort accommodation for June in Normandy. Looks like i’ll Be about 50 miles south of the nearest beach.
