6 friends and myself are looking to head away on a golfing weekend and were considering playing at Rosapenna Golf Club in Co. Donegal.

Anybody ever played it? which is the better/harder course of the two they have?

Rosapenna is good. The "big" course, sandy hills is excellent a bit like glasheady at ballyliffin the old course has been subject to a bit of redesign work and has a new front nine by Tom Doak (excellent) and the old back nine by old Tom Morris. The feel between the two courses is pretty different but bring plent of ammo with you as the rough is mental and they do know how to charge for kit there!

When are you coming over? If its a Friday you would do worse to have a boas round my track and I am sure you would get some sort of deal ;) as for rosapenna you would need to call them and organise something but it (from memory) is pretty pricey. If you need any more info give me a shout.

Cheers Chris. Whats your track?

We're planning it for september, probably the weekend of the 21st. of the two courses at Rosapenna is the old course the easier of the two? we have two high handicappers in the group and just worried they'll have a nightmare round it.

Portsalon is where I play. Where are you going to stay when you are here? If it is in Downings it is about 20 mins away.

As for hardest of the two, I have known guys of 14 or so to lose 7 - 8 balls on each course then the next time not to lose any, if you keep it on the fairway(ish) is shouldn't be any harder than anywhere else. Sandyhills is a "modern" links with wider fairways and bigger greens so theoretically is a bit easier!

We're actually thinking of driving straight to the course then heading out and staying in letterkenny for the night.

Right from Letterkenny to there is around 35 mins or so and its a kinda twisty road. That will give you better choices when it comes to nightlife

*stop press* €160 for green fess

Edit to say if you book online its €60 each round still pretty steep IMO. You could prob get round my place for €20 on the Sat if they have an open on though.

That's why I was hoping to find a deal somewhere. I've emailed them to see. Might even be worth those 2 for 1 vouchers if they accept them. Might head to your place on the sat if we can.

It's not that "type" to do deals as an example any opens are normally €15 or so there they want €30. Good luck. If you fancy coming to my place give me a shout nearer the time with numbers and I will speak to the club to see what they can rattle together.
