Rory

I'm certainly not saying he's finished. What's the saying 'form is temporary, class is permanent'?

He's just lost his way a bit that's all due to a combination of factors - New Nike deal (which will put pressure on him to deliver), not playing as much as he probably should and going out with a fit blond with impressive ball skills.

I've no doubt he will be back and win several more majors but I found it telling that since he missed the cut at The Open he hasn't been on Twitter at all.

I hope he's taking some quiet time to clear his head of all cr@p that isn't golf related.

I think its a shame that it seems human nature to kick someone whilst there down! Is it to make you all feel better about yourself? He's a young lad with money and a nice lady but sadly off his game. Give the guy a break he hasn't done anything bad to you lot!

Reminds me of Ben Curtis or Ian Baker Finch.

Mike Weir is doing well too at the moment.

I think Rory has joined that club. Cashed in exactly at the right time.

Rory's deal with Nike isn't a pure cash handout. There ill be a significant element of performance relate associated ith it.

I'm sure the headline value ($200M) as if he stays #1 for the 10 years of the contract.

So his poor play is actually saving Nike money, while still being the major 'Brand Ambassador'. I'd say the execs are actually smiling!

Anyone remember Michelle Wie and her massive deal some years ago? Still yet to in a Major - putting (and maybe choice of Coach?) being the main problem.

I doubt he would take it:

(a) because if he's determined enough and mentally strong enough to firstly make it as a tour pro and then win Majors, then he will want to succeed as part of the Nike deal; and
(b) if he went back to Titleist and the problems didn't disappear (i.e. they are more fundamental than changing irons) then his confidence in his ability to get back on track would be blown to pieces and he'd have nowhere to go.

I'm predicting another flop this weekend and at the USPGA. His head is mashed and his heart isn't in it. I hope he can have some time away over the winter and really work on the technical side of the game and come out in 2014 confident and happy in his game and with life in general

This thread made me wonder what the average age on the forum is. I remember being 24, enjoyed my job but life was about the time when not at work. He's been a child prodigy, he could probably coast for 2 or 3 years then knuckle down and still have a great career.
Know Tiger didn't seem to but look how that turned out.

I would dare say that the average age on here can barely remember their 30's nevermind early to mid 20's
Id be estimating 50 years of age average.

Not so......once you lose it...it is difficult to get it back with the same degree of confidence.
This is Rory's first downward spiral. All the great golfers suffered at some time, Palmer, Player, Nicklaus, Seve, Watson.

How he comes back and handles himself is vital. He is such a good natural golfer and I hope it is soon.

Westwood lost it for a few years and look how he has come back. Mcilroy is a form player but he is having a bad season in general only added by the media getting on his case. We all have a bad few weeks but we don't have the media circus going about what we do on a day off etc.
