Room for error?

Don't worry, tomorrow you are up against some pretty average golfers. Some might not even rate them that highly.

Cant believe you lost to rick though. There are limits.

We have out of bounds on 9 holes, and 5 small ponds. The ponds do come into play, but a lot of the OB's are well off line , except for the two internal ones, even for me.

What do you play off. I know Mill Ride very well and to be fair a lot of the water shouldn't come into play. Is there really that many OOB's? Don't recall that many

Out of bounds 2/3/4/5/6/7/13/14/18

Water 2/3/4/5/9/10/11/17/18

You still haven't said what you play off. Looking at my strokesaver don't see OB on 3, 6, or 13. To me the water on 4 or 5 shouldn't come into play and my strokesave shows no blue on it at all on 9 bar a very small pond in front of the tee

Admittedly it is about 5 years since I last played it so they may have made some alterations. However I've always found it a fair course and not overly tight and if you use your brain and your shots the water can be taken out of a lot of holes. On the 3rd however there is definitely nowhere to hide

I like the course 'Slope' rating used in the USA and other countries where your handicap is adjusted using a formula based on the difficulty of the individual course.

I notice he didn't answer what he played off either. Mind you lots of users don't put their handicap on ther sig and i can'y see why.!!!

3 right of green
6 behind green
13 75% of the right hand side of the hole
9 small pond, but still water, was only in there a couple of weeks ago

And the lake between 4 and 5 collects more golf balls, well than a golf ball catching lake ;)

Can't believe anyone would ever consider giving extra courtesy shots. I've certainly never done, nor asked for them when playing elsewhere.

A handicap is a handicap - end of!

Well there goes your two extra shots at the Dunes in March Jezz!

:D

having read and re-read the thread through a couple of times I'm afraid the offer of extra strokes by the OP comes across as a rather condescending if not disrespectful statement. All courses are different, but, in normal play, most of us should be able to manage the ball around a course close to our handicap if we set our mind to it.

If offered this by someone, I'd certainly go out of my way to play as well as possible and provide a suitable GIRUY response based on my golfing ability ;)

I have to say that I'm in the Jezz camp here, cant understand why anyone would give free shots away and I wouldn't take them. Also DCB is also correct, it may actually get my dander up!

Let's just say this - if you turn up for a men's open at a course generally perceived to be a little harder than yours, take the secretary to one side and say, "Look, the course I play at is probably a little easier than this one, and I've never played here before either, so how about a couple of extra shots?" how many extra shots do you think you'll be given...

7! he's my uncle

It not just about how many OOB or water hazards there are or total length of the course though is it.

I played Cleethorpes recently and it has OOB on nearly every hole (at least on 13 anyway) and water on plenty as well but its falt and open so if you shoot to the right general area of the course you always (and I do mean always) still seem to have a shot in. One of the guys playing on the day hits a massive ball but is not that accurate, its his home club and now I know why. saw him searching for his ball several time but still paring holes all the way round.

I didn't play great but still came away 4th with 34 points - if I played like that on my home track it would have been awful . So for the OP - yes there are courses where this is fairly common but the rest of the course layout makes a big difference as well.
