Yes we all know now that Bob MacIntyre won Rookie of the Year, yes we know McGinley is a bitter sod and we now have a Spanish golfer also throwing his toys out of the pram claiming Bob didn't deserve it.

That said, it's rewarded the most consistent golfer through the entire season and it's an accolade that can't be taken away from him.

For anyone that doubts Bob or questions how well grounded a young man he is only has to read the last two paragraphs of this article. You can skip everything and concentrate on the last two paragraphs.

I can't find the criticism you allude to - who said what?

Pablo Larrazabal took to Twitter claiming wins should be rewarded not top 10's.

Rules are quite clear what wins Rookie of the Year. It's the person who finishes highest on the rankings. Not really difficult to understand I'd have thought.

Sour grapes by Larrazabal. Everyone knows the criteria, and everyone can see what an idiot Larrazabal is for throwing that comment out there. Almost a non-story. Not even worth MacIntyre commenting back.

He might have a point, but the criteria was set before the season and MacIntyreachieved that. It's not 'the lowest round' that wins a golf tournament, it's the lowest score over 4 rounds!

Perhaps some sort of bonus could be applied to winning a tournament in future though.

What was the McGinley comment about?

As for the Rookie of the Year - it’s a deserved award for the young man who has played very consistently throughout the season

I can sort of see the point about Kitayama who has won but is it a reward for the odd comp or the whole season

It’s the same as the Rory vs Brooks player of the year - Brooks won the majors but Rory was more consistent - which should be Player Of the Year

Also what did Larrazabel say as his tweets are protected

Kitayama & Migliozzi should have won bigger, better competitions. Thus gaining more points I assume?

That said, Kitayama also had a very good season and was in contention quite a bit towards the tail end of the year. His short game is immense, and greatly needed due to his wayward driving.

Seems there has been a few Scots over the years to have won Rookie of the year but you have to go all the way back to 88 when Monty won to find the last Scot to actually make his mark on the world game as the rest seem to have just fallen off a cliff.

Well done Bob MacIntyre - great achievement and thoroughly deserved. Hopefully a sign of great things to come.

As to those who have different views - shame on them.

I'd imagine that McIntyre's top 10 in the Open took care of a lot of business. Finishing T6 won him around $313,000.
For winning in Mauritius, Kitiyama won a total of $158,500.

There's obviously a reason why T6 in the open wins so much more, and that's because of the strength of field and the test of golf a major brings.

As others have said, rules are quite clear with regards to how the Rookie of the Year is determined.

Dishing it out based on wins is a flawed system as likely you will have a load of guys tied on 1 or 0 wins.

Although not as flawed as the PGA Tour player of the year, where they just pick their favourite golfer.

Aren’t the last two paragraphs what you see from a lot of sports people these days - a lot have parents behind the scenes working hard to give their child a chance , and you see 99% thank their parents etc ?

A lot of pressure being applied on the young man who has a long way to go yet

Great achievement and justly deserved. However it's important, not only for his own progress but as a focal point of Scottish golf going forward that he continues to improve, get wins and then see where it takes him in terms of majors, RC and world rankings
