It is indeed well worth a watch and worth noting the quality of the pitches and the balls he was working with. The word legend is used far too lightly these days, but he was truly worthy of that title. RIP Johan, and thanks for the memories.
Second that, took me a little while to work out what it was but brought a little smile when I did.

Ha Ha, hadn't seen that, there were a lot of people asking om the Ajax twitter page were the video was released, some other great tributes on there as well.
Have you ever noticed that in the 74 World Cup Holland wore a kit supplied by Adidas, however, Cruyff only had 2 stripes on his shirts as he was sponsored by Puma, that to me shows how highly thought off and powerful he was that a national team would have a different kit for one player.

Ah memories. Was on Scout summer camp when the '74 final was played. Leaders had hung a big groundsheet from trees for us to sit under. Log around the edge for us to sit on. Little B&W TV connected to scout leaders van battery. We all sat round and watched the match - all bar none wanting a Netherlands win. JC - absolutely the footballing icon of my youth.
Definitely hearing Sympathy, but having read it on here first I guess it was planted, Nice guitar though

) And I realised quite what that meant and wondered why. As a wee lad and a young teenager in the late '60s and early '70 I wasn't that much into music. Football it was for me. In evenings I didn't sit with my mates listening to music or watching TV - we went out a played football - every evening. And Cruyff was the absolute #1. So when Bowie passed, as much as I was sad, I didn't feel the sudden hole and sense of loss as I do with Cruyff. I never knew him but I knew him well.

Very sad. Another part of my sporting childhood gone. I was just getting into football in the early seventies. Pele had retired and Best was losing his way, so Cruyff emerged as the greatest player in the game. He seemed to be on a totally different level to everyone else. With England not playing in 74 I was desperate for Holland to win. I loved watching that team. Football as it should be played. Fast, skillful, inventive, played with such sheer enjoyment, and at the heart of it was Cruyff. I still get goose bumps when I hear the Dutch National Anthem because of those days that summer. I was devastated that they lost but it almost didn't matter - they were the best team and Cruyff was the best player, and everyone knew it. Good to see so many fitting tributes to one of the true greats.

74 World Cup was the first one I can remember, and I saw footage of the 70 Brazil team which IMO is still the best side and football played but the Dutch side of 74 were just as equal to Brazil in 74. The Orange and black/white they wore was just distinctive the large logo on the shirt, the flair they played with and who could forget the first minute or so of that final. When i think of great players Pele is first then Cruyff a close 2nd.
No doubt he'll be doing the mesmeric turn in heaven.

Brilliant in the Dutch game that they stopped the match after 14 minutes and everyone including players gave a minutes applause

I'm in Barcelona with the wife at the moment. Went on the Nou Camp tour this morning. Massive queues to sign a book of condolence and lay flowers etc. All the shirts in the shop had the number 14 on the back.
Can imagine it's a very inspiring and surreal place to see at the moment. Definitely the player of his generation in my mind and took football forward as a manager as well

Like all the great players had fantastic balance. A true artist on the pitch, and in my opinion the best player to come out of Europe. After Pele my favourite player to watch, and the Dutch team of the 70's was superb, and Ajax were a great team as well.

They named a football skill after him that they still coach - that says it all for me
I wasn't lucky enough to watch him play live so only seen recordings of bits and bobs from him but you can tell he was special.
