I remember seeing him when i was a kid.... super keeper. A golden age.... tell the kids "they caught crosses!"
Brilliant keeper, and one who could not only catch a cross, but do it bare handed. None of these superglue oversized mittens they wear now. Agile brave and technically superb, he was a role model for me from the moment I started playing in goal.

I had the great pleasure of getting to know him a little bit and playing golf with him on a number of occasions when he was a member at my Club.
Already been said on the radio what an unassuming man he was, bearing in mind his achievements and I can only endorse that 100%.
Not only England's greatest keeper but a truly nice man.
Rest in peace Banksy.

Just seen the news and agreed the term Legend is over used these days but it truly is a fitting term for such a great and iconic keeper held in such high regard.
His playing days was before I even knew what football was but I've seen so much footage on video of him over the years and he was superb and that save from Pele in the world cup was nothing short of goalkeeping brilliance.

The best ever IMO and one of my childhood heroes. They used to say the England goal was as safe as the Banks of England.
I will never forget that red hot day in 1970 watching England v Brazil after a day playing football in the garden and THAT save.
I think the tribute from Pele today is one of the best I have ever heard.

A pal of mine sent me a video clip yesterday of him on the radio where he has called one of the sports radio shows. He tells a short story which I never knew.
In 1974 he and his cousin is playing football, he does mention the area as being rather exclusive. Gordon Banks is staying there recuperating after his car crash which cost him his eyesight in one eye. Gordon Banks played in the goal whilst me pal and his cousin knocked shots at him. Whilst playing football with Gordon, something kicked off along the lines of a guy had collapsed. Gordon Banks rushed over and gave CPR. About 20 years later (1994) me pal is working in America. Who does he bump into, none other than Gordon Banks and Geoff Hurst. Me pal recalled the story to Gordon Banks. He could remember it well and was gutted he could not save the guys life.

It was basically the perfect height for a save, fairly close to the middle of the goal. It was not unbelievable.
Why do even the basics get hyped to dilute legendary status?!

Clearly you are the one in need of getting over yourself.
No matter what the topic may be you almost inevitably feel the need to take a contrary view.
As for the penalty save I suspect that I have seen it rather more than yourself.
