Ok so iv got the go ahead from the physio to ween myself off my walking boot over the next week and get into my shoes

So i hit the range for an hour this morning.....Borrowed a Wilsonstaff FG Tour 6 iron ..Again ;).........Thing is why would i be hitting a forged iron longer than my own 6 iron when im swinging the exact same with both clubs.....

It makes no sense to me.....The wilson felt heavier and had a DG S300 shaft in it.....I thought forged clubs were normally shorter in distance than their cast counterparts.....Or am i talking through my ass?

The standard length of shaft on the Ping i10 is 1/2 shorter than the Wilson. But the loft is 30* for the Ping compared with 31* for the Wilson, and with a bit more grip with the forged head maybe there's more hang time with the Wilson.

But hey, I'm just a thick desk jockey... I ain't got a Scooby

Why would forged be shorter than cast? Metal meets plastic. Makes no odds. It depends on the shaft, and the loft.

No idea Murph....Just from hearing people on the forum saying that forged clubs have a little less distance because they are softer.......
Iv no idea about that stuff....

Only thing i cant figure out is why a club that is heavier in the shaft and the head longer than a club that is overall lighter.....

At a guess I would say. As long as the swing speed is more or less the same. The heavier club will have more momentum. Think hammer and nail. Knock a nail into wood with a pin hammer hard work. Knock it in with a lump hammer one tap and its in.

Swinging the heavier club would generate more energy? it would take more energy to get the club to the same swing speed. But if the 2 clubs are swinging at the same speed surely the heavier club will apply more force to the ball.

too early for physics :)

Probably nothing in it, but I just find that the off centre hits with a forged never seem to go as far as a cast. Off the centre then its pretty even. There again, what do I know anyway and with my ropey swing its probably all user error
