What is everyones take on Rick Sheils product review format? I cant help but get the impression that he has become a little too big for his boots now though compared to how he was a few years ago. I realise times change and he has to keep it fresh but he seems to come across abit arrogant these days. Im not trying to slate the guy before the Rick fan boys jump on me

Reviewing golf products must be hard. Literally every new club or ball is as good as the last. Only difference is wether or not the reviewer would game it.

He is the biggest golfer on YouTube so he is doing something right.
But reviews are not my cup of tee if I don’t want to buy the product anyway, so I skip them.

I think a review has a place and you can get some good basic information. However the data they show bears no relevance to my own abilities and I'd love to see some of these reviewers (Shiels, Crossfield etc) use more club golfers as part of the review and get more relevant information

What happened to the 14 handicap bloke he used to have on his channel some times?
Although I would have no intrest in watching him, I found him pretty annoying .

I totally agree with that, its alright reviewing all these Clubs and balls as a “pro” or as someone who plays alot of golf but he is aiming his reviews at your club golfer. So why not get a on course review off a club golfer the product is aimed at

Was that Rob Potter?

Mid handicap review sounds interesting in principle, but don't you need some consistency between the swings to tell a difference? Nobody would trust me with a ball review because in any of my swings a range ball can outperform better than a PRoV1 on my level.

Yes, it was Rob Potter. I think the whole point of a mid-handicapper, or even a single figure and a mid-handicapper is there will be some poor shots but surely the data will be more relevant. Take a ball review, distances will be "normalised" as will the spin rates. Similarly distances on a club review will be far more representative and so the information more applicable and therefore more helpful to allow the viewer to make a more balanced decision.

I cant say too much as i know Rob and actually like him, we are members at the same golf club. But regarding the reviews coming from a mid handicapper, as you say the results would be more accurate as not all the shots would be the best so you would get an over all more accurate finding on the club.

Surely that would be a good thing as you would be able to test what happens with a slightly off centre hit?
And the thing is get a 12-15 handicapper and a single figure player and I'm sure there would be an element of consistency but the mis-hits simply add a degree of what we all experience and so seeing how much distance and spin changes could really benefit anyone interested in the product

Peter Finch said in his vid today that the lowest h/cap of his crowd was some guy Fryer (no idea who he is) anyway, makes me wonder just how good are these guys ?, cause if their best is, and I say this very lightly "only" plus two (who is obviously a very good player) We have about a dozen or so better at my club than their best.

Seems the public in general are very gullible to YT golfers who are good players but not great players, believing their intimate wisdom. I'd hazard a guess there are better players on this very forum.

I think their PGA qualification adds a little bit to what and how they present on youtube rather than just an ability to score a couple of shots lower. They learn to teach, so they can transfer some of it into presenting. Of course they all have a different style and it is up to the consumer to decide if they like it or not.

Just look at the BBC, someone who used to run fast or used to swim fast doesn't necessarily make a great presenter. Someone who knows the sport and is enthusiastic about it can make a better program, even if they have not competed on the highest level.

I find him a little long winded compared to a few years back but that doesn't stop me watching him. Maybe that's just me getting a little bored at the same old, same old.

Behind the noise there's still the stats, spin rate etc., that interest me. And as he's successful he must be doing something right.

As someone returning after a long break (and no idea yet what I'll be playing like!), I really like his videos - think he's got a good presenting style, very good with the camera, I like the stats and the way he describes stuff. I couldn't comment on how true or accurate what he says is though..!

Which guy? I remember seeing him on a couple of videos a few years back with a low teens handicapper but couldnt tell you his name

Did he have 2 different handicappers then? I used to watch all his stuff but really only remember one guy myself.
