HID washed my waterproofs in a coloured wash and removed all the waterproofing a couple of months ago. As I like them and they are really comfortable I wanted to reproof them. I tried a wash in treatment that was ment to be the dogs danglies but it turned out to be rubbish. A trip to our local farmers shop I found Nikwax TX.Direct spray on. I treated my proofs as per on the bottle and apart from a strange smell the first time I went out in them they have been brilliant. Water runs off and I stay perfectly dry.
As it's our turkey trot tomorrow and my wihter shoes have started to leak as the covering on the leather has cracked so when I had cleaned them I treated them with the spray and put them on the heater to finish the treatment. A quick run under the tap and the water just ran off like they had a thick layer of wax on them. I will report back as to how well they hold up tomorrow as our course is pretty wet under foot in places.
So if your proofs aren't proof anymore I can't recommend this stuff highly enough.

Well if it's as good as the TX.direct spray then I'm going to be very impressed. From soggy feet a week ago to bone dry feet in really wet conditions under foot. I'm definately going to look into the shoe proofer.

Everything you need for 1 set of waterproofs to be redone twice. Follow the instruction to the letter though and don't skimp on cleaning out the detergent tray (including the feed for it) before using it. A kettle of boiling water and a quick cycle on an empty machine helps.

Wash first then use the TX.

I used it on my Proquip Aqualight suits and it is actually better now than it was new! It can also add a little water repellency to otherwise non waterproof items.

The other thing about the TX is that it doesn't need heat activated. Great when you don't have a tumble dryer.

What was the first wash in product you tried Andy?

Peter Storm clothing cleaner and reproofer.
Like most things if it's says it will do more than one thing it normally doesn't work. Now I wash my stuff with detergent and then treat with TX.direct. Much cleaner and far more waterproof. I did my work jacket today as the forecast was terrible for when I finished work and my jacket was getting wet rather than the water dripping off. Walking home in the pouring rain and nothing came through with the water sitting on the top like little bubbles.
Brilliant product and I've found a place that sells it at 8 quid for a big bottle.
