Results from competitions are irrelevant for handicapping; that is to say, scores are supposed to be submitted to WHS on the day of play irrespective of when a competition gets closed.

In any case, your handicap is always what WHS says it is (lookup via your national union app/portal, e.g. MyEG), and your club system (e.g. clubv1/howdidido, intelligentgolf (ig), handicapmaster) should agree with that.

The competition results may still be pending but any scores registered for the comp should have reached WHS by midnight.

Still saying pending on Scottish golf app which I also looked at this morning but I looked on masterscoreboard and results are on that, plus scores were updated on notice in clubhouse.

Just confused me that scores were not updated on the Scottish golf app.

Was the comp closed as it I believe stays on pending until comp is official closed.
You would obviously use your pending HC as that is what it is as far as my understanding goes.
Yes. The Index currently shown on the WHS portal is the one used.

As I stated before the competition results have been published on masterscoreboard so the competition has closed, just looked on Scottish golf app and it’s still saying pending??‍♂️

Most golf club systems now are using player self-entry of scores on competition day. These scores are now sent directly to the WHS and will take affect over night when PCC calculations are done.

It's a bit strange really because scores could be incorrect and players could in theory play off the wrong handicap until the club process and check the cards (close competition). Which could be days afterwards.

Apart from players keying in wrong numbers,. the club could apply penalty scores in the days after which again would change the handicap of a player - potentially.

I guess the old system wasn't perfect in this area also.

Yes, WHS is designed for handicap assessment but not for competitions. It's up to each club to process and publish the competition aspect as soon as their resources allow. Large competitions and volunteers doing the processing can lead to delays in publishing results as checking for errors, DQs, penalty scores etc. is pretty time-consuming.
