Replacing 5 iron

Really!! Martin you've got a blog all about your struggles with golf and issues with chipping methods etc if any one would understand some people struggle with different parts of the game it would've been you!!

I understand that. Post #7 says if it makes it easier why not. I have no issue with what people do with their bag set up. I personally wouldn't do it but if others find it better to use a hybrid, then do what you need to

Not struggling with a 5 iron (or my 4) but if I were to build my set from scratch I would have a hybrid to replace the 3, 4 and 5 irons, just makes sense to me.

Nothing beats the feel of well hit long irons! i take your point about hitting a long iron in the fluffy stuff but sometimes its better to take your medicine and go out sideways or hitting a club you know you can advance the ball with! i seriously think if you can't hit a 5 iron its more likely to be a swing flaw such as coming down too steep on the ball and no width in your swing.

If it works why not? If anyone is struggling with a five iron, then why not and as you point out, it has a lot of versatility

You don't even need to be struggling with a 5, I can hit a 5 well but I would consider a 5h instead, whichever turns out better is what I would put in the bag.

I would suspect it's the 5h.

I'm on the lookout for a 27degree G25 hybrid to replace my 5 iron.... I was hoping for a post Christmas ebay bargain but they are listed second hand for as much (or more) than you can pick up a discounted new one for!!!!
