As you all probably know (as I have posted before) I am booked in for a custom fitting session with Ping this Saturday and I have a 30min session with our club pro to see if he agrees with the Ping guy.

Now, I am not commited to buying the clubs from Ping (but may do depending on how I get on) but our club pro is telling me that I can get clubs from another manufacturer as long as they meet my requirements.

Anyway, I like Mizuno irons (as I currently have the MX-15) and feel that they are quality clubs and have seen these http://www.discountgolfstore.co.uk/2581/Mizuno-MP-57-Irons---Steel-Shafts.html

I have a budget of £700 which I would like a Driver, 3-Wood, 3-Iron Hybrid, 4-PW, 56 & 60deg wedges.

Any help gratefully received. ;)

a Ping fit isn't going to help with Mizuno irons, if I have read correctly from the advice of the forum you cannot transfer fittings from one to another - just about everything will be different, lofts, lies, shafts

If you like Mizuno, why book a session with Ping?

To me, you should get c/f'ed with the manufacturer who makes the irons you like, not try to read accross from one set to another.

You wouldn't test drive a Ford, and then buy a Vauxhall?

If you're using Mizuno irons now, why change? Just get custom fitted for a new set of Mizuno's as you know that whichever iron is recommended will be a quality club.

Got a feeling TonyN is your man for this, he has the irons you need.

My MX200 are great but you will probably want something a little smaller and playable off 15.

I was advised by my club pro to let Ping do all of their analysis on their launch monitors etc and let them recommend THEIR clubs/shafts. He can then glean the information from this and offer me alternatives.

Why not book a session with Ping? Like I say, I may even chose the Ping irons, i'm keeping a very open mind about this and this is why i'm asking about alternatives.

Murph - I would test drive a Ford & a Vauxhall!! I am not just going to the info from this then order MP-57's off the internet, I'm going to get recommendations then go an try them. Who knows, the MP-57's may not do the shaft type suitable for me. Am I wrong in saying this?

The mp-57 are some sexy sticks mate! Make a point of trying the mp-52 as they are slightly more forgiving while still being super sexy.

You may already know that the Mizunos tend to come with a slightly flatter lie that most other manufacturers as standard. This does vary a little from model to model though. I had MP30s and got fitted for MP57s last year, there was indeed a slight difference in the 'standard' lies between these two models.

I rate the 57s very highly, ask TonyN he rates his new 52s very highly. If your going to spend the money, you need to be happy in your own mind that your getting best fit and best value.

The link you gave is a very good deal, if they suite you as standard off the shelf fit. Don't discard the MX200s, I've seen them and they are nice looking and nice feeling irons as well.

Just be carefull that you dont get suckered into buying something based on info from a Ping fitting session.

Of course there are also many other brands out there that may warrant further investigation. :D

HTL,

Monty had a dabble with the MX200s at the end of last season. He had them in the bag at a couple of the late year events.

Off your h/c there is no set that I could or would reccomend for you.
You need to invest in a set that you feel fit you the best, a set you are comfortable with, I could list some run of the mill sets and some of the top of the range but it really doesnt matter, its all about what suits you and works for you the best. off your h/c you should be able to find something that suits. the question is do you want to improve your game with the aid of kit and technology or are you just happy to have a nice set of taylored clubs in your bag and a good customer service? Nice to have both and more but if its a choice, then thats the question you need to answer yourself.

My advice would probably be to go to Ping and get measured and then go away and go to a Mizuno fitter if you decide not to go down the Ping route. There will be a huge difference to how the Ping and Mizuno clubs set up in terms of lie, and probably shafts and kick points.

You seem to be talking up the Mizunos rather than saying how you fancy this or that Ping club so it seems that you might already have made your mind up

As others have said, you appear to be in the Mizuno camp, and there's nothing wrong with that, so I really would suggest I proper fit at Mizuno, or at least a pro that stocks the range of lie and shaft options.

In my limited capacity and ability, I'd probably think that as far as the Mizuno range is concerned you have the choice of either the MX200s or the MP52s.

Both are forged, but the MX200s have a larger sweet spot and are more traditional perimeter weighted, cavities. This would be the set if your iron play and ball striking is holding your scores back.

If however you're a good ball striker and it's your driving or putting holding your score back, then the MP52s would probably be the way to go. They're a blade-ish type of design, all info on Mizunos website, http://golf.mizunoeurope.com/

I was admiring the 52s today, but it's not until I get down to about 15 that I'll even consider them, and that depends on what I'm good or not good at.

Just don't buy a sexy club because of the look, you still have to hit a little ball with them.

Just my thoughts anyway.

Have fun shopping for whatever it is you end up with. But as others have said, you cannot take one manufactures figures and transfer them to another.

Why dont you get booked in for a session at both Ping and Mizuno and see what you hit best, and what you LIKE best.

Mizuno irons are super, as stated a few times I really rate my 52's and I also tried the 57's. I didnt launch the 57s as high as the 52's, the 52's are designed to get the ball up high.

Mizuno offer a free custom fitting session that is no obligation to buy. Hopefully ping do the same and afterwards you will be in a better position to decide the route to go down!

Hi. I got irons custom fitted Jan 2008. The pro who coaches me initially gave me a Ping G10 and a Mizuno MX-25, both 6 irons, to put in my bag for four weeks to try out. The Mizuno I went for custom fitted; no question. It looks better and the ball feels soooo good off them.

In the bag. Mizuno 12 degree 560 driver, Mizuno 3 wood, Mizuno MX-25 irons, Odyssey 2 ball in line putter. H'cap 12.
