Recommend me a putter

My putting has been terrible recently, in fact it's never been great but worse tha normal recently, so I'm looking into investing in a new putter. Any suggestions?

I'm using an old zucci putter just now, it's a kind of copy of the 2 ball type.

Just think I need a change to gain some confidence. I'm missing a hell of a lot of short putts, and have loads of 3 putt holes per round so just think I'm in need of a different style of putter.

I'm aware that it's not the putters fault and the issue is probably with myself but I feel I just need to try something different to see if I can improve a bit as I lose a lot of my handicap strokes on the greens.

For instance I hit 6 GIR tonight, holed one birdie, 2 pars. Had 6 x 3 putt holes and a total of 40 putts in my round of 92.

All help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have a feeling you will be recommended a lot of different putters and style

i sue the spider and think its great

But the best advice i could get you is to pop to a well stock pro shop and try loads of different one out on a putting green

Go and get fitted . Some putters may not suit you so get one that does . ==sounds simple but the difference it makes is huge,==

I have a 38 inch #7 Tank, really like it and has helped me improve my putting.

However this was after trying lots of putters to get one I liked and really the best thing you can go is try loads.

I was close to getting the spider blade as this was great too but preferred the tank

I had similar issue. Been using a putting training aid called 'Putting Alley' over the winter and it has really helped hole those short putts (plus improved longer putts).

A new putter may help but I think putting is more confidence than anything else and I found this helped me.

Have you thought that maybe it isn't the putter that is at fault?

This!

And a putting lesson and set of drills would be well worthwhile imo.

No need to get fitted for one yet imo. But part of the fitting process is analysing your putting, which is no bad thing.

It's amazing (actually. no it's not - it's common sense) how a bit of practice can help too!

I went to my local DG at Romford yesterday and tried a heck of a lot of putters over a half to three quarters of an hour and despite having money in my pocket to burn , I couldn't find a single one that I liked the feel of.

I tried all of the various styles and prices but in the end I thought unless one particular putter has that ' feel ' then it's not worth spending the cash. So I decided instead to spend out on a putting lesson which I have never had but feel I need to take me to the next level.

Have a lesson and find out what the pro thinks you can do to improve your putting and he may even recommend a certain style of putter for your stroke.

Good luck in finding that magic wand!

Ah, my mistake, must pay more attention :D

I will add however that there is no point buying a new putter if you have flawed technique, a lesson and a fitting would be the best course of action.

100% agree

I was fitted for my Scotty in 2012, and have had 2 lessons since. Drastic improvement would be an understatement.

Instead of spending £100+ on a new putter, why don't you just spend £20 on a 30 minute putting lesson with a pro and see what happens?

That's what I would do.

I wanted to get a new putter as I really was struggling to get much feel from my old Ping putter and tended to leave putts woefully short or race it way past the hole. I went to the local AG and the putter I wanted to like (planned to buy) simply didn't work for me - tried a host of others hitting many balls with each and the most consistent for me was the Odyssey White Hot XG putter so I bought it - my putting has improved hugely as a result.

Bottom line - try as many as you can before buying.

Cheers for all the replies. I was thinking about a putting lesson but then I thought what can a pro teach u, except try to put the ball in the hole? LolSeriously though, I think I will have to change putter as I've got it in my head before I even hit the ball that the putter just isn't right. It's because it's a 2nd hand putter and quite old, that I keep thinking what if somebody has bashed it off the ground before it came to me, and it has mucked the allignment up a bit. I just don't feel confident standing over the ball at all. So at least I know if it's a brand new putter, there's not something wrong with it, its my technique that's wrong, hope get where I'm coming from.

Hi, two things helped me with my putter. The first was reading Bob Rotella's "Putting out of your Mind" which I have found to be a great help and secondly (and somewhat ironically given his putting reputation) was the Sergio Garcia Putter Ball.

This basically a sphere slightly larger than a golf ball at the end of a club shaft which exaggerates any off centre strikes. I found practice with this helped get a smoother more consistent putting stroke. I am not sure if these are still available in the shops, but I picked mine up for a tenner on ebay.

As for recommending a putter, I agree with everyone else that you should use the putter that feels right and gives you confidence.

If your missing short putts it could be an alignment issue. Some putters are much better than others for this. I recently purchased the Cleveland smartsquare and its improved my putting massively.
