Rangers Fans

Dodger, firstly your attempts at winding up are pathetic. Secondly they aint 'my lot', You got a good result against Barcelona, well done, however, your football and the SPL in general has been so turgid that thousands of your season ticket holders can't even be bothered turning up. But in true Liewell fashion he deflects from this by quoting season ticket holder numbers as the attendance figure whether they go our not. Unfortunately Lennon made this fact public at the weekend and qualified it by stating that at least Celtic had the fans money. The inflated attendance figures have been common knowledge all season due to the amount of FOI requests that have been sent to Strathclydes finest.

Absolutely booming

I have often wondered about that.
I have a strange gift about estimating crowd/audience numbers and when you have a half empty stadium and the announcer says attendance was 46k you wonder if 15k have all gone to the toilet at the same time.

When Macari was at Swindon it was the other way around, packed ground of 18/19k and announcer says attendance was 14k.

It is called supply and demand.

Same way as my club raised prices for Juve game.It still sold out, good business practice.

It depends on what you do. If you doubled the price to the home fans also in a place like Elgin, you may alienate 30% of them supporters for good.

Ok, you made a quick buck, but if some people never turn up again, what may you lose in the long run - potentially more money.

This is one of the biggest problems with football, it's money mad. Common sense goes out the window, and with people saying "supply and demand", it only authorises it.

When was football's best attendances? The 1950's when everyone was charged two prices, seats or stands. The players were probably only on 3-4 times what the man in the street was on. Bolton probably played in front of 40,000 on occasion, Dundee united in front of 30-40,000.

Now all the money is in the hands of a few clubs, a few players and in front of few good local crowds.

Pathetic? Appears to have hit the spot though.;)

You are correct with our attendances have not been as good as usual however, booming, unlike 99% of Scottish clubs, is what our financial performance has been.

And massaging of crowd figures is not a game played solely by us is it??:smirk:

Only the old firm and the basket case in gorgie are guilty of it in Scotland...not really the best of company to be keeping.

Is it incorrect doing this though? 20k season book holders have a ticket for this game that is bought and paid for but only 16k turn up plus 3k others yet it gets shown as a 23k crowd instead of 19k.

And here was me thinking it was only The Rangers fans who had an obsession with crown figures. ;)

The clue is in the word 'Attendance'...although it's probably not wrong per se, just weird that clubs feel the need to inflate figures for no other apparent reason than being obsessed with the other lot.

Let me give you a couple of examples for this season taken randomly, there are others, every other week in fact

Celtic v Kilmarnock, 30 Jan 13, Attendance reported by Celtic FC - 43,652, actual attendance 23,942
Celtic v Motherwell, 2 Jan 13, Attendance reported by Celtic FC - 48,002, actual attendance 34,907

Now they would be pretty good figures in the English Championship but hang on a minute, aren't you meant to be the biggest club in the world? :D

Should you doubt the accuracy of the figures I have given then let me know and I will post you the source link.

Which is rather ironic for a club that had a reputation for actual declaring fairly low attendances in the days of pay at the gate - one of your ex-player turned radio pundit rather stupidly confirmed this on the radio earlier in the season. :D

Hope the tax man wasn't listening

I was not disputing it happens thanks merely pointing out we are not the sole club to massage figures.East Fife was around the 1m mark supposedly although it was later discovered to be around the 38k mark.;)

No sorry, not really getting that - could you expand or elaborate perhaps?

You're not meant to talk about that!!!

In all seriousness though, it's quite scary the lies that Lawell peddles. It's not even counting season tickets sold as most clubs do, it's just purely made up figures.

How's this sell out Saturday thing going?

Hearts announced attendance last night- 10080, actual police figure- 6405

When Tom Hart owned Hibs he had a gate on each stand that didn't register the clicks, it was his 'weekend money'...all teams used to do it, only a chosen few chancers still do.
