Does anyone else have issues transferring their range form onto the course??
Admittedly I don't usually struggle as I'm just crap on both but recently I have had issues with my driver and 3 wood.
Bought a new driver, get to the course and severely hook everything in sight with it. I get down the range today to cure it and hit everything long and straight consistently.

Funny old game.... Anyone else have the same problems...???

Homer I know you probably suffer...!! :)

At the range you hit a lot more balls and get nice and loose. If you can warm up properly before you play then you'll stand a better chance of improved striking.

I don't like using the range too much, prefer practise ground but it's not long enough for the longer clubs.
I found today I checked all my basics were correct and it seemed to just fly. Happy days!
I think I get carried away with the driver and forget the basics sometimes :)

Yup, on the range you have no pressure and you don't tense up. On the course it matters, you have to really trust your swing and not think about anything.

See my home on the range (again) thread.I'm hitting it great but need to persuade range Homer to morph into playing Homer. There is a world of difference between hitting of a nice level mat and standing on the 1st in a club championship. However if you've practiced well and are swinging well at least you'll be confident in your ability (ok for the first shot at least).

I think it's important to practice with a sense of purpose and not just bash balls. Set targets, shape shots etc. I walk off the mat after every shot and go through my grip and address for every ball. It stops me reaching for a ball as soon as I hit a bad one and at least in part replicates having to take it one shot at a time

It can't be that bad Steve. :)

f.w.i.w. I have a different attitude to the course and the range. At the range I expect to hit 90-95% of balls in approx. the right place and distance (enough to be on the fairway or green) but I don't expect that to automatically transfer to the course. If it did, I'd be off not many. I'd hit most greens, get up n down on a good few I missed, and probably reckon 75 or less was on the cards every time.

It'll come....I guarantee it, but I know some players off 4 or 5 that are nearer 99% on the range, they get bored, so they don't bother going and practise short game all the time. Our new club champion (off 3.3) reckons he could hit 200 balls and never hit one wider than a fairway or green. If he's that good and still plays of 3, you're not so far off on 8. :)

To be honest I've not played as much over the last few months and therefore not been practising that much either. I've been playing to around 15 when I've managed to get a game but only the odd round close to my handicap.
Just a few issues with my driver recently so hopefully after another trip to the range today will sort it out. :)
