Range- Rubber tees

A decent range should have at least three different lengths of tees per bay, normally Orange for driver, Blue for fairway woods and Black for irons.

Not a fan of ranges with auto tees. The mat always seems to to get a groove in it so the tee is even higher. The range I use at Maidenhead has a small orange one ideal for my three wood and a black one that is perfect for my driver.

I don't like ranges full stop.

Horrible tees and cr@p high compression rubber balls which feel completely different to normal balls.

I'd rather go out and practice on the course.

Just went down to the range to hit a bucket.

The range don't have any short rubber tees, neither did the adjoining AG. Very grumpy.

Also hitting so many fat shots and slices today. Not a good morning.

Range tees are a nightmare, My local range has:

green tees for irons and fairway woods- yet they are way to high for either of those.
black tees for drivers - far to low for a driver but to high for a shallow faced fairway wood
blue tees for the driver - sits about an inch above the clubhead, and I have a deep face driver!

so my solution is that I must confess to half inching a tee from a range I once visited on an away day as its the only one i'd ever found to be a decent height.

But ike homer also not a fan of auto matt tee's the matts wear out around then and end up to high or low either way. Fickle bunch us golfers aren't we.

They are fine when brand new, for a few months they work great. Then after a load of hackers have had their way the matt starts to cave in around the groove for the ball loader. The ranges seem oblivious to this and never do anything to maintain the mats.

I always give auto loaders a wide berth and manage the balls myself. Keeps the pace at which I hit them down as well so I end up hitting better shots.

Auto loaders are just fine for people who want a quick bit of fun, I just cannot equate any golf from them to actual golf on the course!
