My 50 year old Ramsay Loft Ladder is steadily becoming stiffer to operate.
The sliding ladder bit works well but the mechanism to pull it down is really stiff.
Tried oil grease etc but it does not seem to make any difference.

Any ideas on how to fix it would be welcome.
Thanks

Its the stiff ladder that is making my joints stiff.
Trying something different this morning after listening to a wifee intervention/consultation.
Ours had exactly the same problem to the point that we didn't dare put it up in case we could not get it back down. A friendly decorator sorted it with a bit of a clean lots of oil and moving it vigorously to loosen it.

I would have thought at your age, being stiff is a novelty ?

Have you tried switching it off and on again? ?

Have you tried Silicone spray? ?

Result.
Problem was a dirty female unit at the top of the steps [thank you google]
Said unit was at the back of the top section hiding 50 years of fluff and dust, I did not even know it was there.
A wash and oil, good as new.(y)

Ramsay loft ladders, serious solid piece of engineering. My folks installed one in about 1967…it was still going strong when we sold the house 5yrs ago…and for all we know might still be.

At one point it did get a bit stiff, but a bit of tweaking of the supports through which the ladder was supported and slid seem to sort things…they’d got a bit out of alignment - and it sounds like that’s what sorted things for you also…
