Has any one else had any issues with the paint finish. I was cleaning my clubs yesterday and noticed on the back of the club head a small chip. Now given that this club is only used on tee's and not fairways, im a bit let down that the finish is flaking after only 4 games and 2 range sessions.

Im not sure how i stand with TM, but in my opinion the matt finish isnt protected by the laquer like other models and can well see this being an issue.

Give them a shout and see what they say. Ryan from TM was adamant when I asked him that the different paint wouldn't make a difference.

They may argue that you're a hacker and it's your own fault ;) but it doesn't hurt to ask!

For the record, I've not had any problems with mine in 5 rounds and 6 or 7 range sessions.

I've had a similar problem on the new burner.
It went back to TM and waiting on hearing from them. Should be replaced under warrenty i think.

Going to make a call now. the thing im not liking is that we havent used matts all winter so there wouldnt chip from that, and to be honest our tee's have been in vert good nick for most of the winter, especially considering i only brought it in the direct golf march madness sale.

I know the chip in the back is very small, but what i dont want is after 6 months a club that is full of chips, i didnt pay £250.00 for that.

Totally agree with you. As much as I'm loving the way mine goes now (most of the time!), I wouldn't be happy at all if it was all chipped up after a few months.

Let me know what they say. Will be good to keep in mind incase the same happens to mine!

Aztecs, the thing thats really confusing is that its chipped on the top at the rear. Now at no point during a shot would this come into contact with the ground, and i know its definately not been dropped walking too or from a tee.

Ive just spoken with direct golf who were very understanding, they did say that they hadnt experienced any issues (which i was expecting) but at the same time understood that no matter how the club had been treated they wouldnt expect for it to chip after such a short period.

To be honest if this is going to happen id rather get the money in store credit and go back to my old burner... or even look at a 910. It worries me that without the hard finish that the clear over spray provides this is going to be an ongoing issue.

Im playing saturday then the club is going back sunday. I feel a bit of a tit taking it back with a chip only 2-3mm big, but it shouldnt happen.

Apparently all claims of this by the manufacturers have been denied

Tipex® vehemently claim its the taylormade r11 metal thats chipping from underneath thier paint job & not the other way round ;)

freddie, if you have seen the head cover for the R11, you would know that this is impossible. the head cover could protect the ozone layer from UV rays let alone the clubs from bag clatter. Also the only things in my bag long enough to touch the R11 head cover with be a burner 3w/5w, both of which have head covers fitted.

Its funny how in almost a year of owning the 09 burner with the gloss finish this was never an issue, yet the new matte finish has scratched quick.

Ive had three woods that have chipped on the back from impact. Dunno the physics but the vibration from impact running through the crown material seems to cause it, if, of course, the paint finish has some inherent blemish. Each of the woods paint finish continued to further flake. So I would suggest you strongly demand from TM a replacement club, as most likely it will get worse.
