R11 - all that?!

I'd definitely recommend trying the Cobra ZL Encore if you're looking in that price bracket. It has the "real" Fujikura Motore F1 or F3 shafts, rather than "made for" versions (I checked with Cobra)

Mine is the all-white version which is not to many people's taste, but they do it in black as well.

I love it and chose it over R11, Superfast, G20 and 910s after trying them all out.

you'd love this then fundy,

Burner TP 12* driver head (about the size of my current 5w)
flexitwist dual colour stiff shaft
Still on the Full cord original grip

it may make an appearance for giggle factor this sunday, could be nice off the deck in windy conditions.

Is that the grey-black flextwist shaft?

I had that and think it's still in my parents garage somewhere. The clubhead probably looks like a rescue club now...

Man I was WILD with that thing, but it was fun!

What was the deciding factor(s) that swung (pardon the pun) it the way of the ZL Monty?

Early 90s sounds about right. I made a very similar move from the Burner.... went to a Big Bertha Warbird with steel shaft... not sure the last time I even saw a steel-shafted driver! That was a dream to hit after the TM I have to say.

It looked the blingest

No it was a combination of better stats on the launch monitor - better carry and roll (10 yards more carry than the 910 for example) and good flight, with generally good feel from it.

To be fair, it was not a full on custom fit with every stock option, loft and flex option being tried as I was spending Tesco vouchers at AG.

But it was the Motore F1 shaft that sold it... it just felt great from the first hit. I'm a big believer in going with what feels good and that made it a releatively easy choice. But you have to hit it well if you rock up on the first tee with Ian Poulter's all-white driver.... the stick is unreal if you don't hit a good one :o

I have so much confidence with it... I actually can't wait to get on the tee and hit it, rather than getting up there and worrying about hitting a bad one, as has been the case with other drivers.

just seen your location, hadnt noticed it before? do you play at East Herts GC?

No afraid not... Got a buddy who's a member there but still not made it on there yet... I was certainly tempted but the joining fee was still pretty outrageous so couldn't stretch to it.

I play in a far less salubrious place down the road (Great Hadham). Doing loads of work on the course so membership is dirt cheap until its done. Needs must at the moment.
