Hi guys,
Just trying to do some pe homework, and after searching my textbook and the internet i amazingly havent found anything!!!
Does anybody know any contemporary concerns from the :
1900's
1930's
1960's
Many thanks !

if PE still means getting changed into tight fitting polyester tops and running through fields of mud... having a cold shower being watched by Mr Toucher then since when was it an A-level subject... WTF!

If it's not PE related, eg like Cuban missile crisis, then the growth of social democracy in Germany in the 1930s was a rather big issue.

A major comtemporary concern in scotland ireland and wales was that england won the world cup and became the cause of the world's largest chips on shoulders in world history

If I understand correctly what you mean by contemporary concerns, try:

1900's - Naval race with Germany. The boer war and the introduction of "concentration camps" by the British, which caused a major storm back in blighty. The rise of socialist and democratic parties along with trade unionism around Europe.

1930's - As suggested elsewhere the rise of national socialists and seperately communism in Germany. The after effects of the wall street crash.

1960's - The "invention" of teenagers, mods v rockers and other excesses of the baby boomers. Drugs and social upheaval, along with many civil rights causes in America.

also in the '30's was 'The Great Depression' - see Wall Street Crash,
1900's saw the death of Queen Victoria,
The Wright Brothers - first manned powered flight
San Francisco earthquake, said to have killed 3000 but this was only caucasians, other races weren't counted, and most of those killed died in fires, many of which were set by homeowners (they had fire but not earthquake insurance) not as a direct result of the earthquake

If you do mean general concerns and not just sports related then I'm amazed nothing came up when you searched for the 1930's. I suppose apart from the Great Depression, the Rise of Hitler and Fascism, the Stalinist purges and terror, the Spanish Civil War and the rise of militarism in Japan it was a pretty quiet decade. Don't forget sports wise the "body line" tour of Australia (1932-3) and Bobby Jones's grand slam of 1930 or "impregnable quadrilateral" as it was called - won the Open and Amateur Championships in both GB and USA.

As for the 1900's apart from all the other things mentioned by others you could add the Suffragette movement (i.e. votes for women - still argued about at some golf clubs I understand :D ) and the social reforms of the Liberal Government (introduced old age pensions). Interestingly Churchill was a member of that governement as at that time he was a Liberal.

I'd hope it was more sport related being PE the cast majority of the answers seem to be more of a general history nature.

So maybe concentrate on 1900 the Olympic movement, start of professional football 1930 off the top of my head the Berlin Olympics and can't think if much else for that era maybe bodyline and for the 60's the mor 'professionalism' of all sports and of course us winning the world cup then the following year Scotland be world champions too ;) I'd say that's the tact you need to take.

Oh and when did jimmy hill get the wage cap removed?? Think it was the 50s but could be wrong.

1930s - Smiffy's clothing last known to have been in fashion?

1936 and the whole Jesse James black power thing at the Berlin Olympics. 1940s was the London Olympics and the first post ww2.

Loads of stuff happened around sport that was linked to the politics of the day.

Yes I did a level pe too! Lol got a b tho many moons ago
