Putting, the mystical art

Sage words Bob but any advice to stop the 3 foot short on the 1st putt, 2 foot long on the 2nd. Next hole 4 foot long on the 1st putt, 2 foot short on second syndrome.

It's not the Putter but the Putee but you can't buy a new one of those in a pro shop.

You can in mine. Just go in, pay the pro and he will take me on the putting green and teach me to putt............

The distance the ball goes depends on the length of the backswing.

As everyone is different, there is no set speed to putt...Luke Donald has a much slower tempo than say Ian Poulter.
But being consistent is the key.
The tempo of a 3ft putt is the same for a 30ft putt, the swing is just longer for the 30 ft putt.
If you start swinging longer AND giving it a bit of a hit with your wrists and hands, it will more than likely go too far.
If you swing back too far, you will decelerate.
I often hear people say "I didn't hit it hard enough" which IMO is wrong. They didn't swing long enough.
Keep the same tempo for all putts and just vary the length of swing accordingly
And never think "hit it"
Think "stroke it"

Thank you Bob - you just might have just hit my problem on the head - hitting long putts, decelerating on short ones.

I assume that the only way to learn how long to swing is time on the putting green.

Much appreciated

Bob- that video really helped me today.

Had 5 one-putts and the rest 2 putts. I have NEVER gone a round with no 3 putts.

SLOOOOOWLY back as far as I need to. SLOOOOOOWLY through.

Personal best of 80 today (par 64):thup::thup::thup::thup:
