Had a putting lesson yesterday, first ever..Was told I was very wristy

One thing that was suggested was that I reverse my grip and lock the left elbow , IE, Swap the hands around with right hand at the bottom of the grip

Was a bit sceptical at first, felt really awkward, then I tried hitting the ball

First one holed out from 12 feet
second 6 inches past etc

ended up with lots of putts within 18 inches and quite a few dropped.

So I think i'll be trying that out on the course tomorrow

Only problem I can see so far is distance control on really long putts. so I think I will use my normal grip on those and the reverse grip on anything under 15 ft

Anybody else use this grip?

Do you play left handed?I'm right handed and traditionally play with my right hand low, but recently I've been putting left hand low to take the 'wristy' movement out of the swing.

I've always used the reverse grip when putting, just naturally picked up the putter that way. though I'm right-handed a putter feels awkward any other way.

I used to hold all my clubs with a reverse grip until i had a lesson.
I still use a reverse grip for putting as it feels more comfortable.

I do exactly that. Reverse grip on all puts apart from very long puts where I revert to 'normal' grip. Don't listen to me though as I am a dreadful putter.

Putting lesson booked in for Saturday after 37 puts in last weeks medal!!!

Mark it was nice to play with someone else who putts like this , I think i'm the only one in our club who does it. I've putted left below right since 2000 and wouldnt go back to conventional

I tried it, I thought it worked for a bit but I don't think it really did.

Bob would be shocked by my current putting setup as I stand slightly open to the target. I line my ball up on the line I want trust that line and just hit it. I've managed to be able to get myself into a state of mind on the green where I believe I can make every put while accepting that I'm gonna miss some. As a result I'm putting with more freedom and I make a lot more putts than I used to even under pressure.

I thoroughly believe in the theory that my body is far better at putting without my concious mind involved in the process. I don't think about the technicalities of it I just line it up and putt.

If this new grip gives you confidence then it doesn't make a blind bit of difference what anyone else does or thinks as long as the ball goes in the hole.

I hope it works out for you, I'm looking forward to the after round review, good luck

Had a short practice session today, definately worth persevering with

With regards to tomorrows game, Imurg has chickened out due to work , so im playing the father in law who has a society handicap of 41

That's the first time you've given anyone shots - ever. You're playing off scratch!! :D :D
You get to give Alan 2 shots up the 4th.. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Wrong Little fat Bro

He gets 3 shots there, I get 2 shots there, so im only giving him one extra

Get yer facts right :D

Fragger

Right - O Floppy Shafted One - it means that you're effectively playing off scratch and he's playing off 19 -if you're playing Matchplay.
If you're playing Stableford then you don't "give" him any shots, you play to your own handicap.
