Hi guys

not been on since last year so a friendly hello from me to everyone!

to keep it short and sweet, I am wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of some decent putters under £70.

putting is easily my weakest area so I am going to get some lessons as I am happy with the rest of my game at the minute to just work on it at the range, however my current putter has seemingly bent over its winter holiday (my good woman seemed awfully guilty when I mentioned it!)

I don't really have a preferred shape of putters as I have mainly used putters given to me! (similar to my drivers if you remember from last year)

Its hard to recommend a specific putter as its a personal choice. I've been through a lot of putters in my time in a quest to find something reliable and would recommend any of the odyssey 2 ball range, the TM itsy spider and the TM Daytona. For value for money though I think you'd have to go a long way to beat the Ping Anser Karsten series which you can pick up for around £50-60

Get yourself on ebay, loads of Pings and more for next to nothing. As always buy from 100% sellers and you should have no probs whatsoever.

If you like a blade the anser karsten is a great shout. My brothers just bought an itsy bitsy and loves it. Personally I'm not a bit fan of the oversized heads. If you prefer an insert I came within millimetres of buying the Daytona and liked the Yes Carolyne though that would be a little over your budget. Speak to your pro though as different head weightings suit different swing types. I have a straight back straight through so he recommended I buy a face balanced putter. To tell the face balance, balance the shaft about two inches from the head on a couple of fingers. If the face points up it's face balanced. Happy shopping.

The full range of Ping Karsten series are available for your budget and represent great value for money. Many different styles and maybee one to suit you.
I have the Zing version and it is a very good putter.

Such a personal choice really.

I have an Odessy White Hot No7. Though it is very stable, I just didn't get on with the insert. So I picked up a Bettinardi BC3 for a song. Being a one piece milled semi mallet jobbie, I thought that I'd like it better. Luckily I was right. It's not the most forgiving on the short puts, but luckily (again) I can get the ball close enough after the first put that it either goes in or I'm left with a little tapety tap tap!

For forgiveness you can' beat a huge mallety one. But only if you can live with the looks of it!

Someone once said on here. "Find yourself a putter that you really lke the look of, and then get to know it really well. Don't chop and change". I think it was Murph. Good advice I thought.

Once you have tried a few, if you are stuck between a mallet and an anser-type, take a look at the Wilson 8876. It's a half mallet and a very reliable one. One word of advice - if you can, take a few out on grass, as the shop matting/astroturf putting areas are not to be relied upon.

The Zen Oracle putter is not only a putter but also a superb training aid. Check out the zenoracle web site.
Get back to me if you want one, brand new it comes with a long shaft which is cut and made to measure to you, unlike any other putter the club is made for you as opposed to you fitting yourself around a shaft that is often too long or too short
good luck.

cheers guys, just been reminded why I liked this forum and mag so much last summer :)

been really helpful already, I considered finding a pro for lessons and asking them but am too easily swayed to go above budget when put under sales pressure so didn't want to just stumble in un-advised.

I love the look of those pings!

See the For sale section. I'm just putting a Nike Oz 6 putter on there. Only used 3 times. £60 new.... selling for £30. Includes headcover.

The shape isn't to everyone's liking but it's a great putter.

def the ping karsten series, at £60 a bargain, use the web fit tool on the ping website then call greatvaleugolf.co.uk with the specs of the one you want,

i got a ping anser 2 custom fitted for £60, bargain

I would say if you are a beginer keep away from anything with a face insert, have a look on ebay at some of the old Ping putters, any one of the steel ansers (2 & 4) or a steel pal something like that, it should cost you about £30 at most.
