Punishment for not electronically entering scores

Prompted by discussion on the WHS 2 thread, I am curious to know how different clubs manage players who do not update their scorecards into the electronic system at their club.
As a relatively new M&H Secretary, one of my intentions was to maybe have a Code of Conduct penalty, or a comp ban for repeat offenders, and there are many at my club. They happily pop their card in the box and ignore the touchscreen.
This will become more of an issue next year when WHS kicks in.
I am reticent to introducing any punishments as the hardware, particularly the PC and touchscreen, are not the most reliable.
How does your club cope?

They gave some leeway early on and then warned of a 2 comp ban for failure to enter scores. I think most now do as required

My committee, as have many others, have a disciplinary procedure for players who do not either return cards or not use the PSI. In our case, one offence gets a reminder, a second gets a warning, a third gets a prohibition from play for a month. If they have a history of offending, they may be suspended. All of course, unless they have a very good reason.

Prior to introduction, all members were circulated and a quiet word was had with 'known offenders'.
Different clubs have different scales of penalty of course. I don't think we have had to impose more than one prohibition. All our members who are wary of tech simply ask another member to do it for them.

played a comp the other week. computer was down, bloke in shop said he would enter me as soon as computer was up and running. he did but the wrong comp tees. a phone cal from club asked me about my mistake. i corrected them re whats what. they were quite relaxed about it all. unfortunately computers do go down, don't think waving a big stick would help.

We are totally relaxed about it and as a result a large proportion of members don't have a problem, those that struggle we just ask players to personally hand the card into the office for inputting.

You have a very relaxed match secretary indeed. Fact is, it is massively frustrating for those doing the cards to find some just couldn't be bothered to fill them in, probably the same type of people who throw rubbish out the window of their car saying it keeps people in job to clean it up.

My last club used to have a process if the computer was down. That way the computer couldn't be used as an excuse. First time, a quiet word. Second time, an comp ban. Never heard of it needing to go that far. Clear, unambiguous rules generally make life easier.

Guess it will depend on how many enter your comp etc

Golf has a wide range of people who play and some just don’t or struggle with entering using PSI

At the end of the day it’s not a huge hardship to enter a handful of cards in yourself - used to take me a matter of minutes

So we didn’t bother with any punishments etc as the psi isn’t really a major part of golf it’s there to help us - and not every can use it well.

I would hope that it stays that relaxed when the new system comes in

I wouldn't say regularly but sometimes the PSI isn't working...we just write that on the card and put it in the box.
I don't know why but our unit isn't particularly reliable.
3 years ago, before I joined the Zoo, my last club didn't have a PSI at all.
You just put cards in the box.

We have a warning system and it is always flagged when the cores are printed. I think 3 strikes is a one comp ban (although with transitional changes in the handicap secretary post and captaincy at the moment not sure how well it is being policed)

I guess the problems occur when H/c's are adjusted over night & not everyone has input to the PSI & the Comp hasnt been processed so those who failed to input to PAI may, next day, potentially be off the wrong H/cap.
Mind if that's the case the same would apply to those who've input a wrong score to PSI, or am I missing something?

Are you running Club Systems V1 with one of their supplied PSIs?
I mention this because my club used to have Club V1, and the PSI hardware they supplied to us is drastically underpowered to cope with the technology they've used to build their latest interface. I ran a check and discovered that every time you interact with their browser-based interface, the CPU usage goes up very high, and regularly gets pinned to 100%. My guess (reasonably informed as a now-retired IT specialist) is that there is a lot of active content trying to run inside the browser. At no point could we persuade Club Systems that this was a problem - they just kept telling us our networking was at fault. I plugged my laptop into the network and ran it as a PSI and hey presto - no problems.

We switched over to Intelligent Golf earlier this year and their PSI interface (also browser based, as it happens) is much more reliable.

the word "punishment" just doesn't sit with me. if I'm paying £1200 to the club I wouldn't expect "a punishment". a polite word to correct the problem is all that's needed.
after that, if you don't enter your score then you don't get entered. simple as.

at ours you have to sign in in the pro shop and pay for the comp, if you didn't put your score in after, i'd imagine as long as you signed it and put your card in the box that would be OK

We know if it is a problem with the computer because it easy to track from all cards. Players are requested to write on the card 'not entered on to computer' so it is easy to see which ones have not been.

We have (had) a 3 stage process for repeat 'offenders' (it can be a bit time consuming to begin with)
1 Polite reminder by letter
2 Reminder letter (for 2nd occurrence within a 12month period)
3 Loss of handicap for a month for a 3rd occurrence with no time limit from the 2nd occurrence.

It went all the way with one player and I think quite a few others got the message as a result.

Any player that plays to a score better than the CSS is required to self adjust their handicap if they play in another comp before the result has been published.

We have had delays of several days in publishing results because of the number of players who either failed to input their scores on the PSI or did not return their card. It is not possible to close a comp until all cards are accounted for.

Will still apply under whs? Currently its easy to self adjust but under the new system it will be harder I think.

Do you actually know that that's the case!!
Cant really see how you'll be able without lengthy calculations.
