Pulling it too much

My recent good form has continued and I played a medal yesterday and shot a 1 under handicap for a cut to 17.

Last 5 medals were buffer, buffer, buffer, missed buffer by 2, and a cut which is the most consistant golf Ive ever played.

I have now developed a bit of a pulling problem. My old bad shot was a slice. It is mainly only with driver and 3wood.

Any tips or drills I can do to help stop this.

Have another medal on Saturday so who knows whats in store!!!
 
It probably is the over 'the top' out to in swing that gave you your slice but you are squaring the club face to the line of path thus creating a straight pull.
 
I used to have that problem but then i got a girlfriend :D ;)

In all seriousness i am having similar issues. Away to the range tonight to work on it. If i have any luck i will let you know.
 
Practice is prob the only way to go!

Playing a medal with too many swing thoughts and no previous experience of what they're gonna do could be dangerous!
 
For a quick fix, don't change your swing, just weaken your grip a tad so the face is fractionally more open at impact.

Lots of good players played a little out to in, Lee Trevino and Monty being the obvious examples.
 
I don't usually offer any tips on here - with my handicap :eek:

But I'll share a tip that I had given me, that doesn't need going to the range to practice.

It's simply, take the club away slow and low, with a slight pause at the top, and wallop! If you get the take away right, it sets you on the right plane for the rest of the swing.

I play with a slight fade so have an out - in, I always make sure i keep the connection of my right arm and my chest together so I dont loose it too much.

Start your downswing with your lower half, dont hit it from the top.

All these have worked for me in the past.
 
Some good ideas , thanks. Keep them comming. I like to keep it simple. My only swing thought for the last few rounds was turn don't sway. Just looking to replace that now to help my pull.
 
Was having the same problem last year, Pulls and Sh*nks. The pro I've had lessons with said it was coursed partly by swaying back onto the left side too quickly.
Am now staying on right side longer and slowed the tempo down. I fat the odd one but its better than being on the left side of every green in the sh*te :p
 
I was suffering from the same problem when i got my new driver and found out that the club face was staying closed at the top of my swing and staying closed hence i was getting pulls and some hooks.

Try taking your club back to horizontal in the swing and hold it there then have a look to see if the club face is closed/open/square as it could be that, or it could be a number of other things! haha ;)
 
I have to agree and say surely its a risk to go out in a medal in particular (at least stableford gives you some leeway) and try and put something into practice that you've never tried or worked on. I can't see how one range session would do any harm and at least see which trigger works best for you
 
If you are borderline going up a shot (i.e. 10.4), I wouldn't do it, if you are safely in the middle of your handicap ie 10.0 or whatever then go for it, the worst is .01 at the end of the day. Practice is key though.
 
Thinking about keeping a straight left arm usually gets me out of the fade/straight pull cycle

Thats a great tip. Thats all I am looking for, just something simple to focus on. I dont see any problems trying that in a medal for the first time.

I am not someone who spend ages practicing and just like simple swing thought.

On Saturday it will be "Turn dont Sway" and "Straight left arm".
