Puckrup Hall is an 18 hole 5,912yds (off yellows) par 70 course set within the grounds of a Hilton Hotel complex. I played here yesterday with my regular playing partner, using my GM Greenfree voucher, in conditions that are best described as four seasons in one day. First impressions were positive, the hotel and clubhouse are of a high standard, good changing facilities and bar area, however the club shop is very small although adequately stocked.

We were welcomed by the staff, however some course introduction would have been beneficial to us as first time visitors. The course itself is a very pleasant parkland layout in beautiful surroundings with views of the Severn Valley and the Malvern Hills beyond. Although relatively short there is a good mix of straight forward and challenging holes with water features in play on a number of them as well as tricky approaches to greens which are well protected by bunkers and fast playing.

At sub 6,000yds you'd expect this to be a fairly quick round, but not on a Saturday in my experience as it is popular with society and wedding groups. The latter likely to also bring an unwanted audience at the 18th green. The Par 5 5th was worthy of its SI1 status, with a drive from an elevated tee to a fairway flanked along the left for half the length along with another lake to the right of the green. But my favourite was the final par 3 at the 18th with another elevated tee with a downhill/uphill approach to the raised green 182 yds away over a fountained lake with their own version of the Swilcan Bridge. The post round drinks were refreshing but being part of the Hilton chain, the bar bill was not. Altogether though, we both really enjoyed our game at Puckrup, would recommend a visit and will certainly be returning.
