Been wondering do the pros mark their own cards?Any check in place in the unlikely event they make a mistake? Also after L W greet win has any player gone 4 rounds with no bogeys?

The Pro's still mark their own cards and its one of the few things that they cant blame caddy for if it goes wrong. You see them go to the markers hut after their rounds where they go over each detail to avoid the dreaded DQ.

I thought they were suppose to swap cards which is how Roe and Parnevik got D/Q'd in the Open. They forgot to swap so effectively marked their own cards and even though the scores were right as soon as they signed them they were in breach of the rules. It was one of those things that perhaps should have been picked up in the markers hut before the cards were signed or maybe even on the course but as Roe had just played himself into contention I guess he was too wrapped up in the whole atmosphere

They swap at th first tee and mark each other score after each hole but at the end of te round they scrutinize them before signing them. I remember Harrington, who was leading, being DQ'd for signing the card he marked as both marker and player.

Basically they swap in the same way you do in the monthly medal. They mark their partners score down. In the markers tent both players swap the cards back, check the scores and sign accordingly. It is pretty simple but as the Roe and Harrington issues show things can still go wrong. Each player is responsible for their own score and card and as far as I'm aware the people in the markers hut aren't allowed to give any advice or information so if a players has marked a wrong score it's down to them to rectify it before signing or they are D/Q'd

Their cards are fairly similar to the ones we mark every weekend but the "markers" column is a tear off strip. When the round is completed each player tears off this strip and then checks the scores against their card before signing and submitting it.

I heard on the telly, golf night I think, that they mark their cards but dont add the total, that is done by the scorers, then they sign them.

That's all that the rules require. The gross score for each hole, marked on the card in the correct place.
Then the players signature and markers signature.

The rules don't require you to add it all up or conver it to stableford points.

Just the gross scores for each hole.

It comes under Rule 33 regarding the Committees responsibilities

Interesting that DCB, I may just put that to the test with the little Napoleons in our committee. I wonder if they would DQ me for just putting the card in without adding the score and deducting the handicap. Hmmm, I think I will give it a go on the first stroke play of the next season.

Make sure your correct handicap is on the card but you don't have to do any adding up at all....
