While playing the Old Course last week GCD was telling me that for the last few years all kids under 16 have got their golf membership for nothing.

I told him that I thought this was a fantastic move and that I bet the town and clubs would see the benefit in years to come and he went on to tell me about numerous young golfers who were already starting to show promise and he thought a lot of it was down to the free gesture.

This week I see that Joshua Jamieson of The New Club has captured the U-18's Scottish Boys Strokeplay title shooting a 5 under and he joins 15 year old Ben Kinsley who recently captured the under 16's strokeplay with a 4 under par total!

It's great to see youngsters coming through and much of this surely has to be down to the initiative shown in the Golf City.

Clubs up and down the country should be following suit I believe.

Its a cracking way to get the kids involved but the thing is they've got so many courses to play, the have the 9 hole Balgove course which is just full of kids and really good practise facilities at the range,i just wish other clubs would follow suit and realise that kids are the future of the game.

They have SALGA which gives the kids there lessons ,one of my mates was a volenteer and said some of the kids were superb at an early age.

My club takes £52 a year for my sons fees and he gets blocks of 4 lessons for £16 for an hour at a time. Our pro is a really good teacher and is good with the kids, the problem is there's not enough of them, he's ahd a few success's recently with juniors he's coached ,ones in America on a Scholarship and doing well, one just won the Club Championship and another won the junior Championship and has just come 3rd out of 90 at Woburn shooting +3 in an Ian Poulter sponsor day so the future is looking bright up here, how do other clubs fair.
