I have been talking to our assistant pro about entering one or two Pro-ams in the south/SE region this year. Has anyone got any opinions on them, are they worth the money and are there any course that you would recommend?

I have been looking at Cuddington Golf Club, near Croydon.

Thanks

We played The Addington in a pro-am, which was definitely an experience. Announced on the tee and everything!

Love playng in Pro-Ams. It's a good laugh if you know your pro and don't take it really seriously...and can be a good way of playing other courses and having meals for a reasonable price

I played in the BMW PGA Championship pro-am a few years ago. We played with Olli Fisher who was great to play with. The whole thing was fantastic and I would love to do it again. We had clubhouse passes, I chatted to Rory McIlroy for a bit. The course was tough but fun with the stands up and gallery. On the par 3 14th I hit my tee shot in the left bunker a bit past pin high. I hit a bunker shot which came out just about as well as I had imagined and the gallery applauded. Their applause petered out as the ball trundled slowly past the pin and off the front of the green. One of my playing partners, a 1 handicap was standing over his chip shot on the other side of the green and I could see him say "(Redacted) me" as it rolled off. So he took extra care over his chip but the ball ended up beside mine.

Olli smoothed it round in about 67.

Then there was a great dinner where Andrew Cotter did a talk and an interview with McIlroy.

A totally great day.

Tend to play in a few each year, they vary as to the cost and "seriousness" I guess but have always found them great fun. Depending on where they are the summer ones can be on the pricey side but theres always plenty going on and always enjoyed the ones ive played. The pros attitude can be quite important though, have heard of people paying a lot to play and then had a pro barely say 2 words to them all day, so best to play with a pro you know if possible imo

Have played a few. Decent enough day out at courses I probably wouldn't play otherwise. We're holding one at our place for the first time this year and interested to see what the winning score is as no one really seems to take it apart.

I play about 15 Pro Am's a year - they are a great way to play lots of different courses and to get an insight to how a pro tackles a golf course.

Highly recommend them - some great prizes on offer also

Croydon indeed!

I've signed up for a pro-am with our assistant pro and a couple of my normal group, playing john o gaunt.

Should be a good laugh, I'm interested to play a round with our assistant pro, he's a young lad and pretty tidy golfer. Hoping to get some tips ;)

With apologies , my golf club and football team are very much the same in using "The" before their name and people often reference our club to the nearest area with a larger population rather than the village it is situated in. Only used the reference to Croydon as I have to drive through there is get to The Cuddington and thought that more of the forum would know that location. I've played the course a couple of times and its a great track.

Thanks everyone for your comments, providing the date works and its not silly money I think we are going to enter.
