Morning All,

I had a lesson on Saturday with one of our club pros and when we'd finished he asked if I'd be up for playing in a Pro-Am event at Bowood next week....I said yes at the drop of a hat and have now had my days off work confirmed.

I've heard great things about the course so am really looking forward to playing it despite it undoubtedly being a challenge, and am also looking forward to watching the Pros in action as I'm sure it'll help my game.

The format is 4-ball better ball over 36 holes (spread over 2 days) and the Pro's individual score obviously counting for the main prize pot with team prizes too. The fact that my score will only count if better than the Pros takes some pressure off and I've been told that I should treat it as a friendly round, relax and enjoy the day out, so that's my plan.

If any of you chaps have had the pleasure of playing in one of these events, any tips / advice?! :D

They're normally very good fun, but it depends on the pro. If yours is a good guy, then you'll have good time. If he's a plonker, it does spoil it.

Just play your own game, let him get on with his (he's after making a few quid) and have fun. ;)

It's one of the west region's order of merit events @ Bowood. They may not be as chatty as they may be at a "standard" pro am.
Who is your pro Achiles??

I played in one 2 weeks ago and they are great fun,and thats what you should do enjoy and have fun,be proffesional at all times because as you said the pro will be playing for the money.
You will definately be needed on some holes, especially where you get shots,so if you can score than great.
Its not easy but try and treat it as a normal game to take the pressure off.
Good luck

Do you mean 2 man better ball??

I thought the Bowood Pro Am changed this year to a two man team from a four man.

Lovely track Bowood and I have enjoyed playing in pretty much every Pro Am I have played in to date.

I have played in the last few years up there but as the format changed the team I usually play with couldn't enter like normal.

Unless they found someone else and decided not to invite me!!

Just go and have some fun, it is nice to see some good pros in action and see how they put scores together. Sure you'll have a blast. Good luck.

It can be a bit long at times at Bowood but don't let that intimidate you into trying to thrash it!

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm not expecting too much chat on the way around as appreciate there is money on the line and will be happy to let them get on with doing their stuff. I'm just looking forward to being there.

Robo - Gareth is my pro. Not had a lesson with anyone else since I started playing and so far so good. Get on very well with him so it should be a good experience.

Swinger - you may well be right. The poster I've seen says 4 ball better ball but think it will be 2 man teams from what has been said. As for the length of the course, it's a wee bit longer than I'm used to :D

Bowood is a long track even off the yellows so good luck off the whites. Hope you're not doing the blues as they are ridiculously long and it will be a long slog of a day.

The pros are usually pretty chatty on these days and once they've realised they've not got a chance of winning they relax a bit ;)

Bennett??
He stands the wrong side of the ball!! If it is, ask him to show you his dance moves.....especially the beating heart. Shocking!!!!! :D :D
