So the Sussex's have decided to take the fight to the Press.

I can certainly understand why they may be angry/frustrated but I've a feeling they are just going to prolong the issues their fighting. Reports suggest its American based legal teams that are pushing; so the advice may not be based on the couple's interests but more on the financial fee potential.

Why the Prince would wish to drag up the 'phone hacking' scandal is also strange to me when most people would have long forgotten the sorry saga.

I believe they are more concerned with establishing boundaries.

The 'phone-hacking' part is probably something to compel the press to agree the emtire 'package', as it's a sure-fire winner imo.

Aye you could be right - several others have settled the 'phone hacking'. The 'Markle' saga is an entirely different case; isn't it?

Good on them - it’s about time both publications were shut down and if this is the start of it good luck to them. His mother was hounded by the press and some of the stuff being said about him and his wife if disgusting.

Perhaps if certain papers treated the (black American) wife of a Prince the same as they treat the (white British) wife of a Prince they may not feel they need to take this action. Not sure why certain papers do it...

I think the question is an interesting one as it asks is it wise, not is it correct. I fully understand why they are taking this course of action but two cases in the space of a week is perhaps not wise. It becomes a full on fight and I am not sure they will come out of it well, nor will their lives become easier.

I'm not sure why the phone hacking case has come so late, surely they knew about this years ago along with the others concerned?

My own view is they would have been better keeping quiet, not taking on the press, getting on with their engagements. The relationship between royals and the press is a balance of mutual needs and a behind the scenes chat between representatives would have been more advisable than an all out war.

Good luck to them though, the press involved in this are pretty contemptible.

A few weeks ago I would have been behind them, now after their response to the furore about their use of a private jet to flit around I have changed my thoughts a little.
I can't help but feel that if they didn't appear to have the "priveleged us" feel I think more would be behind them and they be less likely to attacked.

Yup, that was really what I was thinking with my original question. I think the treatment is terrible but going after the press through the courts is likely to give the media even more ammunition and publicly prolong/worsen matters. I think they are right but IMO prudence might have suggested a more measured approach.

What a poor post - I didn’t think the gutter could get any deeper but well done

What was poor about it? Hacker reckons the press is somehow being racist I reckon he is playing the racist card. I know playing the race card is easier than thinking but it’s lazy and there is no evidence that the press are institutionally racist. They are scum yes. But racist? I don’t think so.

They are being racist - they treat Megan hugely different to Kate , it’s clear as day - what is the difference between the two ? The colour of their skin

so it’s because she is black, not the claims she is a horrible person and people are tired of her constant hypocritical preaching?

Are you David Lammy in disguise?

*edit, just noticed my original post was deleted! Incredible. Wonder how long it will be before someone calls me a racist too?

Wise words from Brian Cathcart.

You might just be saying to yourself, well I've got bigger things to worry about than Harry and Meghan. You would be wrong. It's about you. These papers will treat you like they treat them. Their mission is to divide and sow hate. If it takes royalty to stop them, so be it.

If the country is divided by Brexit, these papers did it. More than any other group – more even than politicians – they are responsible. They make perfectly normal people hate the poor, Muslims, foreigners, trans people, women, black people and, yes, a princess.

They lie, they distort, they fabricate. And they are normally totally unaccountable. They have bent the law their way. They regulate themselves. They cover up for each other. The Guardian, the BBC, ITV will never call them out. So if it takes a royal lawsuit let us see them squirm. Let us see them try to justify their racism. Let us see their shifty friends try to defend them. (But don't expect to see a single editor breaking cover because they are cowards and they hide.) And remember it did not need to be like this. The Tories deliberately wrecked the Leveson project to help their press chums – rich billionaires. The price of their action has been paid by people in their thousands, the powerless victims of press abuse.

But we CAN have change. One royal lawsuit is worth a lot, but it will not bring lasting change. Give us #Leveson2 now and it will trigger a transformation, not just of the press, but of life in this country.

You only have to see the way they treat back footballers vs white to see how bad they are.

So you suggest if I copy and paste a statement I should delete some off it in case you misunderstand it and once again you show your ignorance.
Unless of course without googling it you wish to disprove HIS point about the Leveson enquiry.

No just pointing out that a good point is cheapened by the Anti-Tory dig. There was no need for it, it’s not a political issue.
