Price of Football

And younger supporters are finding it more difficult to afford watching it live. And many of those that do don't necessarily support their local team, the choice being they'd rather watch quality football with top players a 100+miles away than pay over the top for rubbish.

Long term, I believe we will mirror the US, and our football will become a European super league + boot money feeder leagues.

Equally, I could be way off the mark but I genuinely feel the current set up won't survive if it continues in its current direction.

I don't think it's too far away a European League
 
A Bayern Munich fans' group is calling for a boycott of the first five minutes of next week's Champions League match at Arsenal, in protest at "excessive" ticket prices. FC Bayern Worldwide says that, including fees and postage, fans will have to pay more than 100 euros (£74) for the tickets, whose face value is £64. (Guardian)

it it seems that it is not just the English fans that are a little annoyed at the price of football.

This is because they pay around €20 for a ticket and the tickets for there match at Arsenal start at €100. Planning a walkout after 5 mins! That'll be chaos in the concourse!

LOL You really know nothing !!!! The clubs have spent all the Sky money, shirt money, t money every scrap of income on players transfer fees and wages. they are all in hock up to and beyond their eyeballs, Man Utd owe a fortune. The top four are all being funded by very rich and very stupid people.

And those £60 shirts are the fastest selling ever so they can justify the price.

Uniteds debt is nothing to do with over spending much the same as liverpools isn't either.

I've got two Citeh shirts last year from my local Nike outlet store £10 each. lovely jubbly. i nearly bought the lot !!!! LOL

The debt at Liverpool and United are to do with spending - City have reported a profit as did Chelsea and Arsenal

I disagree. I think there's too much riding on it and UEFA will want to retain the CL (effectively already a European League to a dgree with the group stages and with qualifying for the top spots per league. That is a huge cash cow and I think it would only be driven by the clubs on the back of a mega TV deal.

As for prices etc. once you've bought the ticket, all other spending is up to you (easier said than done I accept if the kids are there) but it's a free market and if you think £2.50 is too steep for a cuppa, don't pay it. Funnily enough Kidderminster have the most expensive pies apparently (£4.50) but there seems little angst at that!

PSG have matchday tickets of £187 and so it's not just PL sides that are charging through the nose. I assume the Eridivise has similar TV deals etc to the PL (as it's shown on BT sport) and so they are obviously getting shed loads of cash and fill the stadium anyway so there's a market there prepared to pay that much. Surely thats the bottom line and if people are prepared to part with the money clubs will get away with charging as much as they can. That's surely basic economics

Although to be fair I think there is a certain amount of creative accounting going on to try and fit in with the financial fair play rules. Pretty sure the City owners are just moving large sums of money from one part of Abu Dhabi investments to another through sponsorship of grounds, naming rights etc etc so they can try and show they have made a profit.
 
Sky are paying vast sums of money to the Premiership Clubs and in return expect the clubs to provide the very best entertainment and put the very best and most expensive players on show (all underpins their hyping).

If that means having to get more money out of fans, tourists and 'eventists' willing to pay then great - the clubs can then afford to buy more even more expensive players - thereby demonstrating their willingness to provide what Sky demand.
