Presentation Evening - what to expect

Well ours will be interesting as someone broke in and stole all the trophies last week! All they've left are the glass and crystal. 😒

Ah that's really crud for your club. We had all of ours knicked nearly two years ago when there was a spate of it going on in our area - and we are still sorting out replacements as it took ages to sort out insurance. It's so sad as so many clubs have trophies that go back to when the club was formed and often over a 100 years. So even though we will replace the trophies the originals and their history can't be replaced.

And I'll be picking up a trophy at our presentation evening early next year - it'll be my first at the club and I am proud as well as delighted to have won it. The trophy was one that was stolen - hopefully we'll have a replacements in place for the evening.

Note for those in the South-East who are aware of our beautiful 116yr old Silver Frigate trophy - one of those stolen - a replica replacement is currently being crafted by a silversmith so hopefully we'll have that soon as well. The clubhouse feels empty without it - even though it was only 18" high.

Ha ha! Nearly as much as the United this season then! The league champions cup must have been out on tour that day!!

With ours only formed in 1966 it's not the oldest but still enough history to hurt. Hopefully I'll win one of the crystal ones!

Total shame as that's a beauty of a trophy!

Might have been the same who broke into Everton's, they got away with 10 boxes of pledge, although the sell by date was from the last century.

Ha ha they got a job lot to polish the league championship trophy but nobody in merseyside has seen what it looks like for over 25 years :whoo:

Ours is tonight, 3 course meal followed by presentation and disco. Quite formal as it's shirt and tie, but I'm picking up two if the biggest majors of the year so I'm quiet looking forward to it

Ours was last week, jacket & tie, roast dinner and pud, then down to the prizes, got my name on the board, some vouchers for the Pro shop and a nice bit of silverware

Ours was a week past Sunday. 5pm start for winners and any family/friends who had time on their hands. After the pleasantries it was a well oiled run through of all the all the Juniors, then Ladies, then Mixed, then Gents prizes. Dress code was smart casual - especially the juniors:-) I was there courtesy of winning our Autumn meeting so get my name on a funny looking trophy from the late 1800's - looks like a silver coffee percolator! Much to my surprise and a little embarrassment I also got an award for the "Most improved player" which mainly speaks to how much room for improvement there was. :o

Only speeches were very short 'thanks to all who work hard for the club' speeches from the Gents and ladies champs.

Serious business over we all adjourned upstairs to the free bar and spent a very enjoyable couple of hours mingling and putting the world to rights.

Nicely done all in all.

Presentation Evening with my former club was a gentlemans evening, not the kind of gentlemans evening I'd of liked as no women were allowed, which I don't agree with as it's nice to show the other half what you've slogged yourself to win. Anyway that's another matter but yes no women allowed, unless they were serving meals or behind the bar, jacket and tie required, pre drinks get together before the bell rang announced that please take your seats in the dining room As dinner is being served, a quick sit down before the one thing I detest was standing for grace... Lot of masonry thingy going on at the club........ The 3 course meal served, ate and ale is drank to the drones of an after dinner speaker or comedian.

Then the rigmarole of going through ALL the events for the year starting with group winners of last years winter league and the final overall winter placings, followed by every monthly medal 3rd to 1st then the major comps and the only player speech you heard was the club champion, then Captains speech, and it all started at 7pm and it's gone midnight by time it finishes and it was held on a Thursday night....... Up at 5 next morning for work...........All too long winded for me.

So my new club presentation night I thought it would be the same thing, but no meal, no comedian, wearing jacket and tie wasn't necessary, smart casual and your wives were allowed to go as the women were presenting their prizes as well as the gents, oh gawd, another long drawn out marathon event........... Well kid you not it started at 8, and by 8:50 the trophy tables were empty and they were on tables sitting next to glasses of wine and beer all done and dusted......

Talk about chalk n cheese!

You don't say how long ago since the presentation evening at your former club... I'm guessing from the summary above it was about 1936?
