My brother in law and I came runner up in the Autumn trophy last Saturday, and have been invited to the presentation evening on Saturday. Now, I remember presentation evenings as a boy at my football club, being a night of fun, disco and meeting local celeb, Neil Shipperley (SP) of Southampton fame.

However, this presentation evening is a black tie event; yikes!

3 course meal, speeches from incoming and outgoing captains etc.

What is to be expected? Is it going to be very formal, or will it be relaxed just looking dapper? I assume as we've been officially 'invited' we might get a runners up trophy or at least an honorable mention?

I'd just like to get an idea of what to expect before turning up!

Seems a bit formal for the presentation night. We only have black tie for the annual dinner/dance and our presentation evening is smart casual. I would imagine it would be fairly formal during the meal and presentations and speeches and then if there is entertainment after it'll relax a little

.......... and third place in the March medal [section 24-28] goes to..........probably.

A good speaker can make it an enjoyable night, provided the committee men don't drone on too much.

bit dull and bobbins if I remember. I have never won anything so normally been to support my friends who just get drunk after doing their little speech! However a lot of fellow members love it !

Ours was Jacket and Tie, was a really fun evening with music and a great meal. The meal was quite formal along with the speeches then afterwards it was very much more relaxed.

Well done on the placing!

Reckon will be the same as most presentations

Bit of food , speeches , presenting trophies then drinks

We have about 6 presentations over the summer, on the night after each board comp final. Usually well attended, informal, meal, maybe 60/70 dining followed by presentation about 9:30. Lots just come up for a drink swelling the numbers to well over a hundred on a good night. Winners have to wear jacket and tie etc but relaxed apart from that. Speeches by winners followed by Captain usually thanking all and sundry and plugging the charity (no bad thing). All wrapped up by 10:30 when the disco and serious drinking takes over!!

Your's sounds very formal and dare I say a bit "stuffy" tbh. I'd simply ask someone in the know (secretary, committee member, Captain etc) what to expect, and more importantly what is expected from you......maybe a short thank you speech etc. But overall, just enjoy it and look forward to many more!

funny and sometimes boring speeches

trophys passed around full of booze

set 'warm' food

one table always laughing really loudly at the weakest of jokes

embarrassed and forced smiles from recipients who then stumble back to tables unable to see after the photographers flash!

2 strippers to end with a free bottle of booze for everyone

that last part is a lie

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Speeches for god's sake , it's the 21st century ???
And with the exception of one - off big comps, trophies ???
Sorry, but this bumf is to me, another reason why golf is in decline

God, I'm gonna get flamed for that one !

Having said that, it might be a good evening , so enjoy and ignore miserable me :)

Well played by the way

Hit SEND , light touch paper ....

Don't all sports have presentation nights with speeches and trophies ?

Why would giving out trophies be a reason for a decline in the sport ?

We don't tend to have speeches from each winner. We'd be there forever. Come up, handshake and pose for a piccie and back to the table. Keeps it moving. Food is laid on before for those that want to order it

Pity , as it could attract new members , me. lol

Well ours will be interesting as someone broke in and stole all the trophies last week! All they've left are the glass and crystal. 

That's dreadful. Bet they're never seen again.

Dufferman, I hope you have a great evening.

I missed our presentation evening as I had a stomach bug:( PP and myself had won the Greensomes competition and were due to be presented with a silver salver that's on display among the other silverware.

They'll be melted down by now! It's gojnf around still. Smashed the glass door down. In a lighter mood I blamed my mate as he's come second 3 times. Can't win one so nicked them all.

Ours is a stag do, no strippers, but loads and loads of booze, a meal, and a guest comedian, followed by a members reply. It's a good night. Most of the big winners ring the bell.
