i'm off to Prague in June, watching a gig and a couple of nights on the beer with my mate.

has anyone been and got any recommendations/warnings on the nightlife?

only there for a couple of nights so i don't wanna waste any time

I was there 7 years and and it was mighty, things have changed a lot according to what I hear so cant really tell you too much.

My brother was dancing with a stunner and thought he was in, they came back to our table and she sat on his knee, next she started to tell him the rates - poor bro was so let down.

I took the wife to some of the restaraunts - top class food for peanuts, plus that lovley dark beer.

1) Depeche Mode.....I'm a lifelong fan......especially Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion....
I even played for "One Caress".....long time ago!!

2) Prague.....yep, like a 2nd home.....what d'you want to know. Beer is a different price at the bar to waitress. (I like Gambrinus and Urquell, around £2/pint, used to be 30p!!) Best food is probably in the Jewish quarter, although any of the traditional pub/tavern restaurants at the bottom end of Wenceslas square are good. The "Old" town on the other side of the river is great for touristy stuff, but pointless unless you want to take in old streets and Czech architecture. The old town square is the best "general area" to hang out....between there and Wenceslas. The tube is good and cheap. The food is mostly stews with dumplings. There is no shortage of "clip joints" and dodgy money traders (I use the Thomas Cook 1/2 way up Wenceslas). The department stores are not worth the bother....such small savings these days. Fags are cheap, bring some back even if you don't smoke.

D.M. can't wait. they are immense live. Not seen them in the flesh before but i've seen a few gigs on DVD and as for the music it's always better live whoever it is.

We're stopping in Wenceslas square so it shouldn't too difficult to find a decent bar, but all advice is welcome.

Don't think we'll be bothering too much with architecture.
Unless it's on the inside of a bar.

D.M. are very good live, you'll enjoy it.

They use some really "clever" gadgetry to put it all together. As there is no drummer, every song starts on the click of a mouse but it's all well rehearsed to allow the players to drop in and out etc. It's seamless and because a lot of the backing is "from" the studio archives, the sound quality is A1 and you'll hear exact replicas of the synthesizer tones if yesteryear.....

I don't know how dave g does it.....he almost self destructed and yet bounces back and is a really good frontman.

I am currently working on a couple of their songs a.t.m. (not for them, old ones) and it'd be nice to post a link on here as we do with photos....

Prague is great. Food and beer good and cheap. Plenty to see during the day. Never saw any trouble at night.

Do not miss out on Club Darling, best lap dance joint I have ever been too and prices very reasonable. They even tell you the cheapest drink. Beer was a quid a can when we were in there but a bit more now as pound weaker. kicking out time 0500.

Travel around is easy by a day pass from any metro station and that covers all buses/trams too.

Update on this.
The excellent people at BMI Baby have taken the Wednesday flight to Prague totally off their roster, we're now having to fly out Monday!
So now i'm going to have to do 4 nights in Prague instead of 2!!
