Practise Putting

Was a bit of an argument in the clubhouse and just want to confirm

Is it ok to have a practise putt on the green in between holes ?

I believe it's a yes unless there is a comp rule stating otherwise - used rule 7-2 to confirm it ?

Obviously I was on my own in this

You've got it spot on. Rule 7-2 is quite clear on the subject.

Seems to be an issue about this rule in Beds lol, must have been told more than 10 times by different members, including committee members and the then club captain that I was not able to do so. One of them even thought I could in stableford but not in medals lol. Always seem to find throwing them the rulebook and asking which rule im breaking solves the issue

Yes as long as it's the hole you've just played. But not one you have not played yet.

The other time it's not allowed is if it would unduly delay play.

It can be confusing to everyday players because the COC prohibiting practice putting is in effect for PGAtour events, except match play, which leads to the myth that the rules say that for all cases, as people learn their rules from tv. It is a testament to the power of media that some people seem willing to bet the family fortune or engage in fisticuffs on the issue.

I take it there is no difference if it is a 36 hole comp played over 1 day i.e you can practice as normal between holes

Each 18 is a separate stipulated round so the rules apply equally to both 18.

Seems to be the same issue in Cambs! Likewise senior committee members shouting across the course "no practicing allowed"! First time it happened I doubted my knowledge but checked on here so now just ignore them. Had the same in the Club Champs when we were waiting on the tee so did some chipping practice there - "I don't think that's allowed so you should stop" - "well I know it IS allowed so I'll continue"...
