Practise putting after holed finished ?

I had a discussion the other week with a fellow competitor who was about to practise putt on the green after he had holed out. I informed him that I didn't believe he was allowed to do in a medal play/stableford format but could do so in match play format. he was convinced he was able to do so after he had completed the hole.

Question: Who was right and who was wrong ??

Or unless the Conditions of the Competition do not allow it.

and the other point is that it is only allowed if it does not unreasonably delay play e.g. holding up the group behind.
