Practice

Interesting responses, thanks guys. Certainly given me a few ideas and a bit of inspiration, especially in terms of using that local pitch and putt....wonder if i can sneak on!

I guess I have you to blame for the 3½ hours I stood in the rain today on the practice ground! :)

It was proper dire, cold and relentless rain, nearly had to swim home. Hit some great shots though so there was some consolation... if you can call it that.
Been home 2 hours already and I'm STILL cold! :)

Ha Ha, sorry JustOne....Im just home and i'm not heading back out tonight...think i'll do some practice on Saturday, instead of my usual game, just to see how i fare on sunday!

Only got 1 practice session in this year so far but plan on doing at least 2/3 per week once the weather improves.

Am getting new irons and 3 wood so will concentrate more on these for most of March and then more on the short game in April.

Got an hour and a half in this afternoon , thought it was about time I started sorting the swing out for the year ahead. Lots of work to do and about a month to do it

When I’m into golf which I am again I practice every day, this may just be just sinking a few putts on a matt or going down the rang for an hour, even just a little every day makes a big difference.
Practice doesn’t make perfect only perfect practice does.

I try to go twice a week, the 2nd session the day before a game. If I'm up for a big match or visit to a top course, this might stretch to almost everyday.
If I had the time, I'd go tue.thur.fri and play both sat and sun.

I tend just to hit one bucket these days (40 balls) because to me that is the same as one round of golf (40 full shots).

However, I do reps/drills between almost every shot, sometimes as many as 3-5 reps of the drill and 2 or 3 practice swings before hitting the ball.

So, all-in-all 40 balls, probably over 100 swings.

An important point to remember when practising is that there are basically two types of long game practice at the range or practice field.
There is the technique building type (as mentioned above) where ball after ball is hit with lots of practice swings drills etc thrown in.
This is the type of practice most people do most of the time.
If your not trying to change your swing or work on anything specific this is the wrong kind of practice imo.
The second kind of long game practice is where you are practicing your pre shot routing and swing in readiness for future rounds.
Leave all the clubs in the bag, select one, go through your normal pre shot routine lining up to a specific target and hit a shot, put the club away and start again.
Imagine playing your own course, after hitting a few looseners and warming up, hit a driver or whatever club you use on the 1st and then the 7 iron second shot and so on, if you need to hit a fade because you pulled your tee shot then go ahead.
Practice like this is the only true practice for the course, it will make you a better player.
