Ive a couple of questions regarding practice and how much/little people do.

How often do you guys practice? And, does the practice consist of a 100 balls on the range or does anyone do more than that?

My local range only has bays, i could go to my club and use the practice green but i dont... to be honest i rarely go to the range! Im just interested to see what other people are doing and what your results have been from doing it

thanks

I been playing for a number of years.
Had a few lessons when I was younger but not for 7 + years.
Only started practising last year for a bit, intend to do a lot more because I know thats what I need to do to get better now.
Probably had 2-4 practise sessions (Per Year) before last year that 40 - 120 balls.
Got down to 5 like this but was there for over a year and too inconsistant to get lower.
Planning on hitting a lot of balls.

I'll see what happens.

So far this year.... not a lot, and definately not enough!
Probably about 20 buckets at the range but practice ground is what I really need, and chipping ground and putting.

I go to the practice area and when I start to get bored I call it a day. It can be 30 balls are 200 balls. I don't see any benefit from practicing if your not really up for it.

Throughout the winter i've been getting at least 100 balls at the range and 2 hours short game practice at the pitch and putt course over the road. I also like to do at least half an hour chipping and putting pre-round.
In the summer I will do the range once a week and spend an hour or two at least 5 nights a week round the greens on the pitch and putt, I don't pay and play as I have had the nod from the green staff there to just come and go as I please. They must think im a pro or something the amount of time I spend there in the summer, shame I dont have a pro short game when it comes to the big boys track.

If I had access to a proper practice ground I'd spend as much time there as I could. Once the weather gets better I'll keep some wedges and my putter in the boot and play our par 3 course - maybe every day as it only takes 40 minutes. But the help this will give me with those 100 yard in shots will be invaluable.

I said that which is why I joined my club, 2 old fairways you can use to practice... been there about 3 times now :(

I can't stop myself actually playing instead. I will put in some practice as the weather improves. When it does it will get to the stage where I play 9 or 18 holes and then practice for 4 hours.

Been to Top Golf at Watford with Rick G every Monday night for last 5 weeks. Usually hit about 100 balls to targets which has helped me keep my rythmn going through this bad weather. Last year i didn't do hardly any practice and only played which i think is the reason i stayed stagnant. This year i'm going to consciously spend more time practicing and having a few lessons. That way i know that if i stay stagnant then thats my level and accept it. It's my only real form of fitness nowadays so i'm happy to be out and active. Good luck. :)

Im the same JustOne, I cant keep myself from playing 18 at the club, rather than put some practice in.

I do have a small (and rubish) pitch and put a few minutes from home, maybe thats a good place to work on things from a 100 yards in, hadn't considered that option.

To add to what Doc said, I had a couple of hours worth of lessons last May and came down 5 shots over the following 3 months. the lessons were well worth while

As a self confessed practice freak I have tended to way overdo it in the past. I want to cut way down in 2010 and have only been practicing as much as I have over the Winter because a) the range was open even in the wet and snow and b) I made several swing changes that needed to be learnt and worked on.

I go to the range or practice ground at the club (currently under several inches of water) it has to be quality over quantity. I always step off the mat after every shot at the range and always make sure my address position is correct. It can take two hours to hit 80 balls.

I've got a short game lesson booked for March and a putting one to follow. After that I intend to have one full swing practice session every two weeks and one or two chipping and putting sessions per week. Other than that I'm intending to get out and play with what I've got rather than chase a technically perfect swing.

I like to play the local pitch and putt but cant get on there cos some sod is always practicing around the greens and the green staff just let him do it :D

Usually do a one week a round and the next practice weekend. I tend to spend between 3-4 hours on the range, I work my 9i-5i for an hour and then an hour on my 20* through to driver and then an hour or two on short game and putting.

The great thing about our range is that its grass and if like now its a swamp, we have to matts in a shed also you use your own balls not the crap driving range ones. I don't like the bay ranges, its just not the same, but ok for this time of the year.

:DHA HA
That does remind me of an incident a few months back actually.
I wanted to hit some full 6 iron shots and as the holes aren't long enough, I set myself up playing from one fairway onto the green of a different hole, coming at it side on. Well I thought the course was empty apart from myself, there I am hitting into this green. Just as I hit one to within 6 feet a bloke walks up to the green looking baffled, I didn't know he'd been waiting on the tee out of view for 5 minutes wondering where the 30 or so balls had come from. I don't think i'd get away with that at Weston.

I have been to the range twice this year but usually get bored quite quickly if I just stand and beat balls down the range.
Practiced short game around our practice green a few times and am quite happy at how my chipping and putting has progressed.
I had a lesson last week to see where my swing is at for the coming season and was instructed to get an impact bag to help get me to the correct impact position(throwing the club at the ball as I reach impact at the moment). Iam told I will get more benefit from hitting the impact bag 100 times rather than hitting 100 balls at the range.
I have just booked a nine hole playing lesson with the Pro for 4 weeks time and then we will formulate a proper practice regime for the comimg months.
This is when the hard work will start as I try to get to the single figure h/cap I have set my goal at.

play once each week - mid week and usually go to the range for an hour at the weekend, have to admit I enjoy the practice nearly as much as the golf course.

Was at the range at St Andrews today hitting driver and 3 woods into a 30 mph cross wind with the snow teaming down as well great fun, teach's you to work on a draw as anything slightly fading was of with the wind, great fun tho. :)

I don't think I've been to the range or practice area once this year. The snow has only been away for 4 or 5 weeks, only for 3 weeks of that to be busy at work. I've got a short game lesson booked for tomorrow but that looks likely to be cancelled as does my game on Saturday morning because yesterdays snow has melted and it's still bloody raining.

Ho hum....

I try to get to the range at least one evening a week and usually hit 80 - 100 balls. The range has good quality mats and balls, decent floodlights and a number of different greens to aim at.

Usually spend at least half the bucket on wedges and then up throught he bag from there.

I should spend more time practicing my putting but find this doesn't work very well in the dark. :D
