Power

My advice is don't be too keen to increase the distance just yet.

If you can get a lesson to make sure the swing's ok then do that.

I used to play golf with a couple of young lads that didn't hit the ball very far but were straight every time. By the time they were 18 they were both single figures.

The distance will come as you grow stronger.

Yes, YES! A good swing will develop as the body gets stronger, no doubt. Also, a hit out the middle will go further. ALL my pros have said the same thing - "Hit the ball BETTER and it will go further".

Its not about power but about timing. That only comes from putting a good swing on the ball so focus on that instead of trying to hit it too far. Take it from an old timer - power = fast swing = poor shots

I would agree with this (sorry, Homer).
I have a very rhythmic but gentle swing. On a good shot with spot on path and clubface angle (a straight shot), I don't even get close to 100 mph with my driver. Even on a tortoise swing speed, I can hit my driver up to 260-ish (when middled) and easily get over 150 with a 7 iron.

I'm on 90 mph with a regular driver and nearer 95mph with a longer shafted club.

Even with these rather pathetic figures, I could easily play to 4 or 5 if every shot went straight or close to straight.

:)

For most of the juniors I play with, it is about having a nice swing. They all have beautiful coached swings, and as they get older, taller, and stronger, the distance creeps in. I play alot with the son of a friend of mine. Two years ago, he was shorter than 5 ft, and thin with it. He had a nice swing, but it didn't go far. Now he is 15, still only about 5ft 2, about 8 stone, and he is now hitting it 270 ish, and is off 4. That said, his short game is amazing, and he is clearly going to be a very good golfer. Power will come as you grow, but you also need to be hot from 50 yards and in.
