Swing is in and out at the moment.

Something I have struggled with for a while is the feeling of power.

I feel like my swing is weak yet I can hit a mean ball, today on a bad swing day I managed to whack an 8 iron 165 yards up hill twice! Later on hit a 5 iron up hill into the wind 178 yards!

Both swings also did not feel like I gave it anything, they just went.

My question is should I feel like I am putting some muscle behind it or should it feel effortless, like I am weak strength wise in my arms.

I am defiantly not the strongest in my upper body having a sedentary lifestyle and not doing a job that requires any strength at all.

No I think you are spot on the way you are doing it. If you try and swing harder and try and add power the tension that creates will rob you of tempo. I often look at cricketers who clear the fences and just think they look so effortless and time the strike so purely. Then you look at someone trying to slog the ball and they nearly always get caught on the ropes.

I agree with G Mulligan.

Many times I have tried to wallop the cover off the ball as it feels the right way to go. Results are different but mainly wild shots, no direction or great distance.
I make a conscious effort to "swing" through the ball, with some power but mainly with tempo and find that the ball, more often that not will fly further and with better accuracy.

I've also found that by shortening my backswing I gain much better accuracy and better swing plane.

It seems to work better with my driver when I put a bit more into it but nothing else.

I am saying it more because I do swing within myself and I feel like I have a weak swing and wonder if trying to swing with more muscle would work.

I think I need to but keep it to the right muscles, the back ones!

I'd say the last thing you want to do is feel as though you are hitting it. Sounds like a recipe for overfast tempo, a tendency to come over the top and a myriad of other problems. I know there are lots of golfers (Woods etc) who seem to really attack the ball but it is all controlled. For lesser golfers like me anything similar results in frequent trips to the trees or another reload. Stick with feeling it is a smooth swing and enjoy the feeling when you pure it

Having seen you play my gut instinct is I would focus purely on weight transfer and not on actually trying to hit it hard. If you maintain your tempo and get the weight transfer right you'll hit it plenty far enough

Sounds like your timing is perfect on your good swings. Persevere with this and if you need to hit the ball further keep your swing tempo the same but with a bigger shoulder turn. This helps me a lot.
